well as per WSJ article, the "announcement" is the beatles on itunes

who gives a flying fuck about a) itunes and b) the beatles ... yawn

yeah I mean who cares about a service with 90% market share and the world's highest selling musical act. clearly it'll do nothing for their business.

Another momentous event in modern history...

Where were you when Kennedy was assassinated?
Where were you when the Berlin wall fell?
Where were you when NYC was attacked by terrorists?
Where were you when you heard the Beatles were available on iTunes?

Fuck you Apple and all your fans.

If you ever liked the Beatles, you probably would have had most if not all of their albums already (or atleast their greatest hits compilation albums). That being said, I'm sure people are still going to be DLing the hell outta Beatles stuff because of this...

On November 16, 1532, Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish explorer and conquistador, springs a trap on the Incan emperor, Atahualpa. With fewer than 200 men against several thousand, Pizarro lures Atahualpa to a feast in the emperor's honor and then opens fire on the unarmed Incans. Pizarro's men massacre the Incans and capture Atahualpa, forcing him to convert to Christianity before eventually killing him.

I wondered once, how many itunes users buy music they already own on CD. I chuckled

That's kind of like saying I wonder how many people bought 8 tracks or tapes of the music they already had on vinyl, or CDs of the music they already had on tape.

People will certainly pay to avoid the hassle of ripping it themselves.

I bet they sell a few hundred million in Beatles mp3s in the first couple of weeks. My rough guess says they did 20 million in sales of the boxed set alone on opening day.

Good for them.
