Laptop suggestions under $1k - Non Mac

I just recently picked up an Asus A53s series which was about $750 on NewEgg. It's been really amazing so far.

Came with:

6GB Ram
1GB GeForce 540m vid card
Core i5

The thing is running everything I throw at it really well. Games are easily upper medium and high settings. Video editing is a breeze and so is Photoshop.

The design is really comfortable if you have big fingers since they spaced out the keyboard a bit.

My one thing I don't like about it is that the headphone jack is on the right side which means that it gets in the way of using a mouse but it's not anything too bad.

Shit on HP if you want just ordered this for $1100.

I actually saw your thread a couple weeks back and saw some very helpful responses but most of the suggestions were north of $1K.

I see here and even on your thread that many people are pro ASUS. Im looking at a few on newegg but would appreciate more suggestions in general or on some ASUS laptops.

You said you want it to be light and portable.

You CAN NOT go wrong with the X220, I'm using it to type this right now.

It's lighter than the Macbook PRO but with almost equal power.

Better keyboard, military-tested carbon fibre casing with an option to upgrade battery to something that lasts up to 20 solid hours.
Yes, that's ONE WHOLE DAY.

and the 3 year international warranty.

Seriously, what more can you ask for?

You already said you don't want Apple so buying Sony VAIO is hypocritical. (Vaio is hype).

As someone who owns a HP laptop, -1 for HP. So many of the modern laptops (HP & Dell included) are being made thinner and lighter by making the shell much more weak and flimsy.

Anything where you have to prise the speakers off by bending them along with brute force (even the official manual says to do that) in order to get at the insides, is a bad bet, imo.

It should be much easier now to narrow down a good, portable laptop for under $1K.
After reviewing this entire thread it looks like the following laptops are highly recommended by the community;

ASUS
Lenovo
Samsung
Sony Vaio
Gateway
HP
Alienware
Acer
....Almost forgot .... Toshiba...
Mac

What I am am clear on now is that Dell sucks.

So if you guys were looking for a super portable computer under $1k to watch porn on, lurk WF and catch glances at Starbucks....... any from the list above should do the job?

Everyone has had their own experiences, for me HP good, Dell and Asus bad, man up and make your own fucking decision.
