"Free ride is over -- Amazon.com collecting California sales tax"

I don't think people understand, the more taxes taken from us, the less money in our pockets to buy things. In fact this was the whole reason on why we celebrate Independence Day from the British, Taxation without representation, Motherfuckers where just adding takes to everything, and we revolted. The funny part was the tipping point being about the taxation of tea, and they threw all the tea into the ocean - tea party.

Good luck bros.

I'm sick and tired of you fucking idiots constantly complaining about taxes. It's your CIVIC DUTY to pay your goddamn taxes. What do you think you're sooooo special and entitled that you can drive on the roads that tax dollars built, send your kids to tax dollar schools, go to a tax dollar hospital (all hospitals receive some form of government assistance), and generally live in this wonderful country without paying your fair share back to society? Get fucking real or go to Somalia.

Even if you go to Somalia, you still have to pay taxes. I qualify for the expat tax exemption and still have to pay taxes. The US govt doesn't do a god damn thing for me besides steal my money to pay for shit that I don't use and wars that I don't want.

I'm not a crazy that thinks that all taxes should go away, but this overspending beyond belief has to end, and people who don't even live in the country should not be required to pay shit.

I love how you erased the 2nd part of my argument.

DO SOMETHING instead of complaining about it all the time. Or remove your citizenship and get it somewhere else.

I was in Vegas this week. I don't care much for the place but it's looking better every day. There's no state income tax. You can get a CCW. Plastic bags are still legal. Gasoline is about 30-40 cents cheaper, even though it has to be transported to the middle of the desert!

I've got a friend over there that rents a 5 bedroom house in a really nice neighborhood for $1500 month. Or, you could live like a pimp in City Center. The rents start at $1200/month on the low end for a studio.

This.

And what's even more ironic is when the tipping point occurred, the total tax rate was something like 9% give or take a little, if I remember correctly.

So..

9% = revolt/one of the proudest moments in our recent history.

50% = having to listen to some internet fag talk about it being my civic duty to pay taxes.

a big fuck you to your socialist ass sir!

**edit for clarity: giant fuck you directed at "pewep" (and other socialist fags) not "ccarter".

Even if you remove your citizenship you still have to pay taxes. That's what he was bitching about.

To the locality that you're in, that goes without saying of course. I thought he meant to the US gov since that's what he was bitching about. You could always go to some corrupt country that lets you shelter your income in tax havens without repercussions. The choice is yours, but don't complain when things go to shit and you could have done something but you didn't.

I don't know if it's true or not, but he's saying if you renounce your US citizenship you're still required to pay US taxes while being a citizen of another nation and living there. It's been talked about a bit on WF, but I have no personal experience with it.

This is correct, there is a time limit though. I believe it's 8 years but don't quote me on that.

Back on topic, it's not going to be long before Amazon taxes every purchase.

Since I'm in the UK, I'm guessing sales tax is the equivalent of our VAT? (Value Added Tax)

Consumers pay 20% tax on any item/service bought from a company that makes more than £86,000 in sales a year I believe. Then company pays that amount to the government, though they can write certain things off against it.

Or remove your citizenship and get it somewhere else.

This is exactly what I plan to do

Sounds like bouvalae. In fact I'm quite positive it's bollocks.

At some point in time there was a law that required expats, even after renouncing citizenship, to continue paying taxes to the US for 10 more years. Just a way of saying "fuck you, you're a slave. Even if you hate this place enough to leave and never come back, we still own you." However, I believe this law no longer applies at the current time. The fact that it ever existed is shameful, though.

OK, here it is from wikipedia:

"The first law to authorize taxation of former citizens was passed in 1966; it created Internal Revenue Code Section 877, which allowed the U.S.-source income of former citizens to be taxed for up to 10 years following the date of their loss of citizenship. Section 877 was first amended in 1996, at a time when the issue of renunciation of U.S. citizenship for tax purposes was receiving a great deal of public attention; the same attention resulted in the passage of the Reed Amendment, which attempted to prevent former U.S. citizens from obtaining visas, but which was never enforced.[5][6] The American Jobs Creation act of 2004 amended Section 877 again.[7] Under the new law, any individual who had a net worth of $2 million or an average income tax liability of $139,000 for the five previous years[8] who renounces his or her citizenship is automatically assumed to have done so for tax avoidance reasons and is subject to additional taxes. Furthermore, with certain exceptions covered expatriates who spend at least 31 days in the United States in any year during the 10-year period following expatriation were subject to US taxation as if they were U.S. citizens or resident aliens.[9]"

So now, you can avoid being taxed as an expat, but only if you get out and stay out (visiting less than 31 days per year for the next 10 years).

Wow that a 20% sales tax. That's getting raped dude.

Come to think about it, in the USA, We got federal tax, state tax, sales tax, city tax, mother fuckin water tax, gas tax, capital gains tax, and then fucking income tax. No matter were you turn some asshole is trying to come at you with a tax. If someone took the time to calculate the double and triple taxations for consumer good, from production to consumer possession, and then everything else, we'd realize we are probably spending 60-80% of our money paying a tax in some form. Think about you computer parts, every single part was probaby made by a different company, down to the fucking screws. The screw company pays taxes, the glass company, the CD parts, and all the way up, that's why prices are just going higher. When screw companies get screwed, We ALL get screwed.

Vote Ron Paul, 2012.

Good luck bros.

Oh, and let me add to my previous post: you can only escape the 10 years of taxes after renouncing citizenship by getting a favorable ruling from an investigation by the IRS in addition to making less than $2 million per year. If you make that much, you're automatically forced to pay the 10 years of taxes.

And even if you avoid having to pay for 10 years, you're still forced to deal with some bullshit paperwork for 10 years... it's nothing but a matter of spite. Sounds like a better idea to drop off the face of the earth after leaving the US.
