In 3 years, after expectations have dwindled, the redundantly-named campaign "degrade and destroy" (DAD?) will be renamed "maim and mangle" (MOM?). Five years later, after it becomes clear that the Islamic state is pretty resilient, it will be renamed again to "hurt and harm" (HAH!).
In 2030, the newly-named campaign "run and retreat" (RAR!) will quietly go into effect.
The coalition is using ISIS as an excuse to bust Syria's head. Neither Syria or Iran who are allies, and the only middle eastern countries not controlled by a puppet king are going to let their sovereignty be fucked with like that.
ISIS = the new Al Qaeda. A terrorist boogeyman that the world police have to "stop", meanwhile they pull it's strings.

The whole terrorism thing is ONE BIG FUCKEN STORY! And god damn does it piss me off in the massive way it's changed the world, especially considering the only thing it's really changed is a) given governments more control and survelliance over populations, b) lined the pockets of weapons manufacturers, among others, and c) pissed a whole lot of people around the world off, and pissed off to the point they'd prefer to see us dead than alive.

I don't see the reason why the west feels it needs to be involved in these conflicts. You don't see China feeling the need to stick their noses in.
