Hell yeah Logo's! My daughter is 4 and we got her the Lego's table. We play with that thing all of the time. Or find him the Lincoln Logs or Erector Set! Those were the shit!!

They're called LEGOs. Just get him a ton of basic building parts. They're the universal toy, and furthermore they're great for encouraging him to use his imagination.

I really don't like the fact that so many toys already have the 'activity' or purpose defined in the toy. Lego's let everyone decide what they want to play with, they're good for groups, and they're pretty universal, so you can keep buying Legos and they all go with each other.

Hell, I'm 26 and I still play with Legos every chance I get! :)
My brother actually found his old collection of Lego's the other night.

I spent the next 3 hours building a castle ;)

Well my son (also 5, as you know :D), aspires to be on Dancing with the Stars. He makes me pause it so he can try to get into the pose they do in the beginning of each dance. Haha. It's so sweet and cute. :)

I would for sure not worry about it. I think it would be more damaging if he got the sense from you (unintentionally) that he has to be something that he isn't because of other children. Know what I mean? You are so right - kids are cruel - but it's better he learn to deal with that sooner rather than later.

Did I mention AJ loves taking ballet classes? And I swear he's the most masculine little boy... Now come up to Austin so they can play dollhouse! Haha!

LOL! Grant was just doing some weird whiteboy groove thing in the department store yesterday, so I'll make you a deal... If you can get your son to teach my son to dance, we'll bring the dollhouse to Austin :)

haha, the hoff brightens up any situation.

Get the lad a gun, far better than a doll house, or at the very least a skateboard!

I got one when I was a kid. I didn't even know it was a "doll" house until the lady at the hobby store said "oh, you have a DOLLLLHouse?" when I was buying some furniture with my mom.

The thing was I was really into building things and architecture/design when I was about 6. I also won a train from school. While setting up my train, collecting coins, and collecting cards, I was always going to this hobby store. I was fascinated by the little miniature furniture. I thought it was cool how they built these little pieces of furniture.

My stepdad actually built me a house. Is woodworking girly? He sure wasn't. He was always building things and my grandfather was an architect. So I was just into stuff like that and designing, drawing, and building things. I always just called them "miniatures." I played with GI Joes and WWF "action figures" too- but really they were just "dolls" as well.

I should cal my mother and ask her what happened to my Dollhouse.

laura - your kid being in austin makes him 33.333395% more likely to be gay than if he were in say Dallas or Houston. Those are the facts you can't change em' cause I used a statistic so it has to be true!

You know...I was going to post some motherly advice from one mom of boys to another...

then the David Hasselhoff picture showed up and I practically fell off my chair laughing. :1orglaugh: I'll just go with "he will be fine, buy him the dollhouse".

Let him play with the toys he wants. Give him choices.

Parents imposing their stereotypes on their kids is why people grow up to have those prejudices.

I played with Star Wars action figures when I was a kid. I played with Legos. I think a desire for an orderly world, or a desire for control, is why people and kids like to play with miniatures.

There's nothing wrong with it... it's natural. Criticize the toy companies for not providing something that is gender-neutral that your child will enjoy. Start your own toy company.

Here's the dollhouse that I want:
Greenleaf Garfield Dollhouse Kit - 1 Inch Scale - Dollhouse Kits at Doll Houses Galore

When I worked at Netshops, that was one of the sites I was the SEO guy for. I used to catch so much shit because I would talk about how cool it would be to build one. I like wood working and modeling in general, so to me it's just a really cool miniature and can be as realistic or surreal as you want.

Instead of a miniature house (aka dollhouse) I bought a miniature car (aka radio control car, nitro powered). But, I still want that house.
