I went to the Republican caucuses last night. Of course I was caucusing for Ron Paul. Things got pretty heated there. The only differences, I had points to my arguments, and the old republican guard had none.
Instead of talking about real issues, such as our economy, the falling value fo the US dollar, bringing our troops home, they wanted to talk about supporting "good" candidates with "conservative social values" people who supported amendment to the constitution to ban gay marriage, overturn Roe V Wade, and all this other nonsense.
How about taking a stance on issues that actually have an impact on our lives, folks? Seriously...
When I tried talking about why we should support Dr. Paul, the federal reserve, the absurd amount of debt our country is in, only the 7 or so Paul supporters in the room knew what I was talking about and wanted to listen and discuss.
A few folks even brought up the fact that "Ron Paul would pull the rug out from under our troops and keep them stranded" - people clapped when this moron said that. Someone else in the room then went on to remind everyone that Ron Paul has received more support than all other candidates on both sides of the party line COMBINED.
They claim to be "pro life" yet anti stem cell research. This seems highly contradictory to me.
So, I have come to the conclusion that the Republican party as we know it is on the way out the door. There is not enough of us "new" Republicans to control the party for the time being. Republicans no longer stand for "conservative" values in the original sense of the word - conservative GOVERNMENT. They would rather rant and rave about saving the sanctity of marriage, because you know, us heterosexuals manage to make about all of 45% marriages last, you know?
Last night was very discouraging. There are so many close minded, uneducated people in this party that it's almost impossible to call myself a Republican anymore.
I don't even know if I want Paul to run as a third party candidate. It'll just cost a bunch of money and the sheeple of this nation still won't listen.
