Anyone else just not give a fuck about nice things?

Making money online is great and a nice thing and all, and don't get me wrong, I love it. It's exciting, can make tons. I want a nice car and a nice house, and joke about an island and all, but I really do not care about:

- Nice clothes. I wear free t-shirts from my university and shorts all the time, like it's not ragged looking, but it's not all polo, gucci, LV, etc. I have a couple of suits I got at steinmart, one is ralph lauren. It's not bad, but it's not expensive.

- Nice shoes. My current daily shoes are around 8 months old, wear them day in day out, Nikes I got for $60. I have dress shoes and all, but they're not super expensive

- Jewelry. I wear my class ring. That's all. Nothing more will be worn by me until a wedding ring. No necklaces, no earrings, no strange piercings, etc.

I don't have to buy new shit all the time. I still use a 17" CRT TV because I never watch TV anymore and haven't used my XBox in 6 months. I mean I'm not broke by any means...I just don't live lavishly really. Like I said, nice car, I want a BMW, and a nice house (but it doesn't need to be huge).

This isn't a stab at anyone who does like these things either, but with all the talk of ballers here - anyone choose NOT to be a baller, even if you have money?

Well its a good thing you don't give a shit about expensive stuff because thats how people end up broke trying to live the lavish lifestyle with money that isn't stable. Especially in our line of work.

I'm kinda the same way as you. I do go buy some good clothes and shoes every now and then but I don't walk around with bling or drive a 50k car. On the other hand I do love spending money on shit like flying to vegas for a week and having a bad ass time with some friends. I could care less about material wealth I just want the ability to do what I want when I want with money not being an issue. Then again who doesn't want that?

Yeah I'd do this too. I don't mind spending money on a good time with friends, but I'm really cautious about it so I don't get people who hang around me just for money too.

Same here. I buy my clothes 2nd hand. I buy the cheapest detergent. I don't wear jewelry, etc.

I do like the nice house and car thing. But my main thing about money is to do what I want when I want. It is about power. It is about not being a fucking slave to some prick boss when I have kids and will need money bad. It is a lot about power, when you have no money, you have no power.

Also about kids. I think as an individual I wouldn't need much money to live happy on the rest of my life. But to have a kid, fuck, I want to really give him the best fucking shot in life that I can, and that costs $$$. I mean, home school him from the very beginning so that by the time he is 6 he will be fluent in 10 different languages (yes, you will need people who speak 10 different languages to him all the time around, so that costs serious cash).

I don't have a kid yet, but when I do, I want to be ballin' so I can just spend time with him and bring something into this world that isn't the shit that is 99% of humanity.

About spending money on loved ones/friends, everyone I know who I pay for when we do something, are people that hung around me when I never had more than $20 in my wallet.

I couldn't agree with you more. Honestly, I could live that whole live now with the fancy care, huge house, and expensive shit all over the place. I however, prefer to travel and see things. How many people say they've been to cliff diving in Fiji, skiing in the alps, and went swimming in geo-thermal pools in iceland. FYI, out of the three, the geo-thermal pool was the best experience.

I'm not interested in buying nice stuff either. For me money means mobility and a free schedule. I want to be able to travel whenever I want, or to take a day off to go the beach whenever I want, stay out all night partying and not worry too much about how much I spend, stuff like that. I like making myself look good, but I don't need expensive gear for that. Nobody's impressed by it, anyway.

I don't even have a car, a tv, or a watch. But this year I've been on 5 trips abroad and seen lots of awesome stuff and had tons of great experiences. Worked hard and partied hard.

I do not care about expensive apparel at all. When I go shopping with my Dad I cringe when I see the expensive stuff he's buying.

I do however like nice laptops, cell phones, servers, and software.

But right now pretty much all my money goes towards school and business.

meh who needs nice things they are useless really

all i want is 80 + hectares of land a nice house and a Internet connection :)

At some point you realize the futility of ”nice things”. Wanting something is often better than getting it. Usually it’s a letdown.

I’m getting better at talking myself out of buying shit. I still have a 27" inch CRT TV that I never use BTW. It gets pretty dusty.

Technology is great for the first six months, then a new better model comes out and you get gear lust again. The nicest clothes are made out of material that gets ruined easier (silk, cashmere, suede). Cars, boats and homes can become more of a liability than a source of joy.

I like to put my money towards things that will still mean something to me in ten years. This includes writing songs, hiring sidemen and recording at pro studios, investments, experiences (going out, travel) etc.

We all have weaknesses when it comes to “stuff”. For a while I spent tons on expensive guitars and pedals, keyboards, basses and recording gear. After a while I had amassed enough to kick the habit.

I have a weakness for stylish clothing and that probably will not go away. A outstanding piece of clothing gets me high when I wear it.

It only takes some serious health problems or a major injury in one's life to set your priorities straight. However nobody realizes this until it happens to them or someone very close to them.

hey papa im 2 drunk to repky to this thread but man we need to talk about waves. this shit is on my mind all fucking day.

Oh and to actually reply to your post I agree. Fuck all that money stealing shit. don't get me wrong there are some fine things I enjoy in life but owning an escalade over an tahoe is not one of them.

to each his own I guess.

I don't buy shit if its not name brand. Clothes, you will not find anything walmart on me. Everything is name brand, down to my draws, wifebeaters, and socks. I think my last purchase of underwear/wifebeaters was maybe 3 for $25. You know whats funny though? I find alot of the name brand clothes to be less durable than anything thats not name brand.

I have 6 pairs of shoes currently - but in the summer time the only thing I wear is flip flops - and I have about 3-4 pairs that I rotate every week.

Jewelry - I don't really wear any - at all, I thought it was the coolest thing when I was younger, but guess I just grew out of it. I will wear very nice swiss-made replica watches every once and a while, not the real thing, in case it got stolen, or I got blackout drunk and it gets lost, etc. (this also goes with sunglasses too. - I am done buying $300 pairs from sunglasses hut only to watch them go missing within a week.)

My home also, I don't splurge crazy, but I DO buy nice things, because I enjoy nice things, LED tv for relaxing, macbook, nice office area, etc.

My car is nothing lavish, but I do drive something that is less than 2 years old and will make most people tell me or eyeball fuck me to let me know I have a nice car.

I guess it really depends who the person is, and what they are comfortable with. I don't hate or clown on anybody who is different - i just think its a matter of how you were brought up even, who knows.

Three times in the past twelve years I've invited all of my friends over and given away everything I own (with the exception of some clothes, a laptop, and a bike). I hate buying anything other than food and my happiness level seems to directly relate to whether or not I can fit everything I own in a backpack.

Even though you say you're not a baller at all, there has to be something, ANYTHING, that you indulge in, even if just a little. Perhaps if it's not the obvious bling things that you've mentioned. Maybe you buy every single video game when it comes out the second it's released, even though you don't play more than 5-10 minutes of it anymore. Or you have 6 26" monitors surrounding you while you work. Maybe you have a collection of 10-15 different scotches that cost 150-200$+ a bottle. Or maybe you have 10 boxes of cubans, and you rarely smoke if at all. Maybe you paid 20-30k more for a car than you really wanted to. Whatever it is, there has to be SOMETHING that you just pay way too much for. Because otherwise, what is the point in making all the money in the first place?

There has to be something, that when you get that small moment to yourself, with whatever it is you're indulging in, you experience, even though briefly, that moment of pure and unadulterated bliss. That feeling of, "you know what, if everything ends tomorrow, I'm OK with that". Or if you don't go that far, just a "yeah this is pretty fucking nice". Even though deep down you would honestly would have nothing to do with ever thinking that you have "enough". Still that small little moment is probably more pure joy than a lot of people ever experience in their entire life. And you know what, maybe that bliss isn't something you can buy. Some people end up realizing that, after they get stupid rich and still feel completely empty. But that something has to be there, otherwise you end up completely stumped as to what to do next.

Most people peak in high school / college. Hook up with someone they don't really like. Pop out some kids who fucking hate their guts. They work until they end up with some sort of insane disease, and then die, bitter and old.

So while you can hate on people who spend in excess, if you don't indulge sometimes, you're just as bad as them. So in other words, go buy yourself a nice watch, get a couple pair of nice shoes, and give thanks to all those rebills you abused to get there ;)

Doesn't leave room for that dildo you showed me. :D

I'm not hating on people who do. I really can't think of much, if anything, I splurge on or go on spending sprees. Like, I buy name brand kleenex instead of the cheaper store brand tissue because it feels better I guess. But other than that I really don't do that.
