Hello all,

After days of solid development the URLGap URL shortening package is finally ready for purchasing. You may view a demo of what you will receive for $10 here. That's right, a whole valid xhtml website, along with a php/mysql/ajax powered script for just $10 - available for instant download after payment.

URL shortening/disguising websites are becoming ever increasingly popular are the internet. They basically take a link that you input - and make it shorter, or disguise it in some way. People are always looking to either shorten, or disguise there links. URLGap provides you with a script and design that allows you to run your very own site and offer this highly popular service - within minutes of purchasing. Whilst others offer a similar service - nobody is able to match our script, customer service or quality of production.

Why Buy This Package?
  • It's $10 for a whole website, that's quite a deal.
  • The script is advanced. Unlike competitors who offer a similar service, our script makes use of AJAX technology combined with custom tagging in order to make your links personalized.
  • We've also thrown in a custom written contact form for your website.
  • The package comes with simple instructions that make it easy to set up your site. Just edit a few things, and you're ready to go.
  • It's web 2.0, honestly. And we all know that's hot.
  • You get the PSD of the demo logo in order to personalize it to your needs.
  • The site comes with Meta tags built in - this helps you to rank well with the search engines.

Once purchased, you will be redirected to a download page in order to instantly download the package. The script comes with easy-to-follow instructions so that you can have your site up and running within minutes. If you have any questions whatsoever, please contact us.

Thank you,
Gareth

I just tried the demo, you might want to make a note saying that if you use capital letters in the tag, the url given by the script won't work.

Besides that, it looks nice.

Cheers for the comments guys, I had noticed that problem myself.

Miguel, you may not resell the package once bought, it is simply for your own use :)

Nice script. Could you please explain the advantages of this over a free script such as: PHP Short URL Script - GentleSource.com and others.

Have you got a demo of the admin area please?
This script makes use of AJAX which means no reloading. This script comes with a valid xhtml design that's ready to go straight away. I'm sure that warrants the very small $10 fee :)

There is no admin panel required for this script, however we may add one in the future.

I'm interested - looking for something like this.

Not familiar with AJAX though. - How is the data stored, is it possible to edit it if you want to change the destination url? Does it provide any sort of tracking (just need number of clicks)? (or could it work with say Google Analytics installed on the site - would that track the redirects?)

Please excuse my ignorance, AJAX is something I know fuck all about!!

As far as I know, AJAX stands for asynchronous javascript and XML. An example of this would be google maps or even this forums quick reply box. The only thing that it does is send data over from your computer to the server without refreshing the page. This can be awesome or horrible from a usability and user friendliness standpoint depending on how it is implemented.

So if a user had javascript disabled then a redirect using AJAX wouldn't work?

I can't say anything about this script because I've never seen it :D. Normally, AJAX does not work with out javascript enabled. However, there are ways in which you can detect whether or not the visitor has javascript disabled and then the web page can either load an AJAX version of the site or a plain old html site.

I have no idea if this script does that or not. The creator can answer that I'm sure :)

The data is stored in a MySQL database and may be edited from an application such as phpMyAdmin. I'm afraid click tracking is not a feature as we are operating a fairly basic script.

Gareth, is there a limit on the number of sites I may be able to use this script on?
You may use it once per purchase :)

I thought URL shortening worked like tinyurl where you don't necessarly have a tag, and the urls are like:

TinyURL.com - shorten that long URL into a Tiny URL
Gilby's Website
Unicyclist Community
www.tinyurl.com/003

or some sort of number/letter extension. If your site got popular it might be hard to find unused tags. I tried the tag "test" and it was already taken. Not surprising as it was probably used to test the script. Maybe you would want to have the ability to auto-generate a tag.
With this script you do not have to use a tag - it's completely optional :) Try it without a tag and see.

Very nice. One thing I noticed is that if you don't use a tag and keep submitting the same URL that "number tag" keeps incrementing. It'd be worth doing a quick check to see if the URL is already in the database and then returning the original "number tag". I think it would save a lot of duplicated and keep the database smaller over time if the site took off.

Awesome service but to disable more than one link for the same url defeats the purpose for hiding aff links =)

Many will have www(.)domain-name(.)com/aff=12345 and so on.

Did I miss something?

Im talking about unique URLs, not unique domains, so that:
www(.)domain-name(.)com/aff=12345
www(.)domain-name(.)com/aff=11111
www(.)domain-name(.)com/aff=22222
www(.)domain-name(.)com/aff=33333

Will all be unique, but there will only be one
www(.)domain-name(.)com

So if multiple people submit the same URL, it will only be tagged and stored once.

What if people submitted the same exact URL multiple times, why store them all in the database when they are identical?
