1000('s) wordpress blogs pointing to main site. Rankings?

Kinda noob question here.

Let's say you have a brand new domain and you launch 1000 wordpress/blogger blogs with anchors pointing to this new site. Will the big G see this as 1 (heavy) backlink, will it be 1000 backlinks... or is it something in between?

Also, is there a good (free) software to monitor your rankings?

Oh one thing. These blogs are on different subdomains ex:
keyword1.wordpress.com
keyword2.wordpress.com
keyword3.wordpress.com
