$12k Cash, What Direction Would You Go? From a "not so newbie"

Alright, first off I want to make it clear that I am NOT asking for ways to make money in the sense that I want specific details, not looking for a "secret" that will instantly earn me money, etc... I hate when people come here and do that.

I've been working full time for several years now, and it produces a good full time income, enough to take care of my family.

But here's my problem. The type of sites I operate (I won't go into the niche), take a lot of manual time, and it's work that you really can't train someone to do. I don't even think I could train my wife to do it, or really anyone else.

I have a medical condition that right now is under control, and I can work as I please. What I do worry about is what happens if it gets worse. What if suddenly I can't spend several hours a day at the computer.

My goal is to develop site(s) that earn an "autopilot" income, so I don't have to babysit and check in on them day after day. This would allow my family to have some income coming in, even if one day down the road I wasn't able to work much any longer.

Now I'm not some newbie coming in hoping to find the answer, and create the business by next month, I know that to create something like this is going to take time, and probably at least some money too.

I've got about $12,000 that I have decided to devote to developing some sort of business that over time can give me that autopilot income I'm looking for. So what I'm asking here isn't for anyone to spill their secrets to me, etc... obviously that's not going to happen.

The purpose of this thread is more of a "what would you do". What would you do in this situation, what kind of business would you aim to create?

For the record my current thinking is to build 100+ sites that each review a specific product and/or niche of products.
 


Running 100+ sites that review whatever are going to be atleast a few hours of manual work a day I'd guess.

I'd rather run a few main highly profitable campaigns, and spend most of my time scaling the hell out of those and negotiating for better cpm's.
 
Build a very good site, high quality in a niche with lots of money. Make a web service or software that really helps people and give it away for free cheap or reasonable price. Promote it a lot and build it up.
 
Buy a few sites that already make money, increase their monthly earnings, flip for 10X monthly rev

This is also an option, you could theoretically get a site earning 1k a month for around 10k but there's lots of other variables of course. I wouldn't recommend it really, I always prefer to build myself

I've been here for 3 years, kind of a permanent vacation. Will eventually be heading south more maybe to costa rica or panama or brazil after my wife finishes school.
