1996 site, same owner. 300 pages unique, readable, custom content.

Need some advice on where to start. I want to move as fast as possible (low budget unfortunately) but I do not want to do anything stupid.

The site was used for Adwords for our personal business. We were #1 (organic) etc for many terms, but years ago. Since then just a few low comp pages ranking 1-10.

Where do I start? Just attack a page at a time with bookmarks etc? Or hit 50-100 pages with blog comments or XR to see if I can get some movement. Many of the terms are not very competitive.

Any advice would be appreciated.

All of your pages optimized for on-page SEO? Make sure your terms are all properly optmized for on-page. For back linking, just take a look at what the competitors are ranking #1 with and match it. With the age/history of the domain, you shouldnt have to worry about going to agressive.

Yes, SEO OK with H1, H2, Titles - just basics. Though they are very heavy with keywords. What should be my density target? How much is too much? These pages were written 12 years ago and the density is very high.

Though many pages (30%) have underscored long tails and not hyphenated, which I read Google prefers hyphenated. Many of these are still ranking. For 100 long tails checked there are:

G page 1 - 6 pages
G page 2 - 8 pages
G page 3 - 2 pages

This of course is with no (minimual residual) back linking at all.

You mentioned not having to worry about being too aggressive. Fair enough. But what is a strategy - just do a page at a time?

Should I at least start hitting the 16 pages above with some XR or Blog comments? I have used and understand enough on XR affects but how about direct blog commenting? Save to aim say 10,000 comments to the first 20, 30, maybe 50 pages?
