Call me a cheap ass, but this is a good idea for any of you looking for a cheap desk. I'm turning a second bedroom into another office for the next month or so (brother moved out), but didn't feel like buying a completely new desk. Turns out I like this so much I'll be selling my "real desk" on craigslist next week since I'll be moving and don't want to haul it down 3 stories.

Total price? $70. Two cheap file cabinets and one hollow core door. Hell, the light in the picture is almost 3 times as much... Anyway, it's strong as hell, has a ton of room and can be broken down and moved in less than a minute.

Again, it's not going to wow anyone, but the amount of space and ease of moving the thing make up for it. And it'd be a great way for a new startup to save some cash if you have a few employees.

Sometimes ghetto is the way to go. I'm liking it.

Yeah, I've been coming to that realization a lot lately. First with a $40 chair working better than my Herman Miller and now this. I've had these three desks over the past 3 years and they have all sucked in one way or another: one, two, three.

It looks really low. How do you manage to sit, or put a chair there with arm rests.

It's tall enough for me... there's probably 6 inches from the bottom of the desk to my knees and I'm 6'1''. But my current chair doesn't have arms, so...

Guess it must be the angle of the photo, or I am bad with depth perception.

Regarding, Herman Miller, I just switched to their chairs, and it's got to be the best chair I've ever worked from. I've used 8-10 different chairs in the past 4 years, and since I switched to Miller, I don't have the same back pains I used to have, plus it keeps me in a good posture.

I roll ghetto desks. 2 6-foot costco tables put up in a L shape. Crazy desk space. I have 2 mini file cabinets that fit underneath as well.

I think I'm going to do something similar, except I'm going to be standing with something to lean up against (like a wall, but more ergonomic)

High-back chairs with arms just don't work for me. I started a thread last month and ended up finding this chair which has ended my back pain. /knock on wood

cannot afford to buy decent desk, and hot just shy about it, no... bloody happy and proud ?! Creepy-hippy cool :-)

I work in an office with all door desks, they're fucking great. You can get a door at home depot for like $27, the handle hole works well as a wire guide, and you can paint them whatever color you want.

You can also get cheap table legs at IKea if you want adjustable height

This has been popular to do for a long time (2 file cabinets, 1 door). It's good with a solid core door too. Also, the more heavy it is the less it will shift around. Hollow core doors these days can feel really cheap and flimsy, but I guess it just depends on what hollow core you use.

i have had this type of the desk in the past and I still roll ghetto.. instead of the door desk though, I have upgraded to one of those old school plywood folding desks that like you would find in a school cafeteria or church dinner on Sunday.

I need a new chair, lately every single night around 8pm I feel the pain in my upper mid back and have to take a 800mg Tylenol or Darvocet to ease the pain some.
