200 Greatest Electronic/Dance Albums | Listology

There's all sorts of great music on this list. If you like electronic music in general I urge you guys to check it out.

I have found some new and wonderful music for my listening pleasure. Soon I'm gonna check out some of the stuff on the "honorable mentions" section from 1959. :banana_sml:

Here's a couple of new discoveries for me:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D56eqR-qiM]YouTube - Leftfield - Afro - Left[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUhzCUQJTe0]YouTube - 4hero - Parallel Universe[/ame]

This is one of my contributions, don't think it's on the list. (Hella fun song, and addicting)
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCvFMgUZsDQ]YouTube - mouse on mars - wipe that sound[/ame]

There is some amazing music in that list.

I'm surprised there's not a Global Underground compilation on it though [even in the honourable mentions / compilations bit].

^ yeah, it's a pretty solid list, but mixes are where it's at for me.

The Tyrant Fabric discs need to be on there. Lee Burridge's burning man liveset from this year will go down in history too.

The K&D Sessions (1998) - Kruder & Dorfmeister
everyone needs this album

It's a shame Trentemoller didn't throw together a Greatest Hits album... cos that guy is one of the most talented electronic artists of all time! Here's one of his beasts...

It's pretty shocking that Daft Punk/Homework is ranked at #14. That album should be in the top 5.

I watched Tron Legacy yesterday and the soundtrack they did for it was pretty sweet.

^^ Rubbish! :)

Homework was/is a good album, but it's not worthy of pushing many above it. I think I'd even say it's too high where it is, imAo. Leftism is the only one that to me should be higher, but such is the quality in the top ten, It's probably about right.

The K&D sessions is an album of legend, but it's remixes, so I suppose it can't be eligible. Much like Fluke's album Risotto, likewise an incredible album, but entirely remixes of their tracks.

There's also only Frequencies by LFO. Advance was their best album in my mind, although not perhaps as influential as the first.

Good to see the amazing Blue Lines up there, obviously it could never push the god fathers off number 1, but could get 2. There's so many amazing albums on there I could write and write and write.

@Instrumentalist

I'm guessing you hadn't heard of Leftfield before? The album Leftism is a true great. Here's a couple of their classics off that album and one on the underrated, but leftfield, follow-up.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30wlhehSgDI]YouTube - Leftfield - Release The Pressure[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKHgMmSCQD8]YouTube - Swords - Leftfield[/ame]

What? There's no Way out west? Their first album should be right up there?! Fucking hell, that's a travesty.

[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Way-Out-West/dp/B0000087X4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1292662410&sr=8-2"]Way Out West: Way Out West: Amazon.co.uk: Music[/ame]

Here's a little picture I felt the need to take, of a selection of some of those albums, on vinyl. (Note Way out West's album and the smuggled in Northern Exposure and Risotto - 3rd and 2nd from left respectively!)

lol come on man, this is genius...

The French are the masters of electronic music...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThKNt-GY1ww]YouTube - Justice - Genesis[/ame]

If this chart included mix cds, I'm sure we'd agree on the Digweed/Sasha Renaissance mix making it (I remember you're into the prog house lol).:)

^^ Good memory. I'm a near fully recovered Vinyl Junky, although still throw a few quid at a record if I must have it!

The Sasha/Digweed Reaissance compliation is mentioned lower down. In many respects it should be, even if they hated the music, simply as it was the first commercially released, studio mastered DJ mix cd, so therefore was quite ground breaking.

Don't hget me wrong, I love the album and it's a classic. It's as french as it gets, which I love. Bold, in your face, arrogant, cocky and cool. Da Funk, for me, is phenomenal. You only have to look at modern french dance to hear their influence, although for me, it was already there, just not really bought into it's own until Daft Punk.

Music like this clearly has heavy influence from DP and you can hear it's French in influence from the other side of the galaxy.

this new electro house shit is garbage. Back in my day (lol) house was funky and groovey. Now it sounds like Lady Gaga getting fucked by a horse.

@ Incantation

I stick records on almost everyday and purchase about 10 records a year - normally something rare/old or a decent album. Haven't played out for maybe 5/6 years and only then a few house parties! :(

I barely even buy music anymore, I'm sad to say, mainly because it's a distraction I decided I don't need. If I fully got back into music I'd have to give up other things and it's something I consciously decided wasn't a great idea.

I used to make music as well, only for fun, but I'd listen to some tunes, I'd do some mixing and I'd come over all influenced and then sit in front of Cubase and my Keyboard for a few days. Two weeks later I'd have a tune and fuck all else! :D

The first tune's good, reminds me of another tune, not sure what, but it's bugging me. Actually I think it's Jimmy Van M and Nick Warren's - One and Only, but because it's still bugging me it's probably not. :)

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVFA2KfmwGo"]YouTube - Nick Warren & Jimmy Van M - The One And Only (Vox Mix)[/ame]

I wouldn't mix the other tune, but could certainly play it with some 'phones on! Similar to some of Steve Porter's stuff a few years back - intelligent and melodic. (His music could still be like that but I don't know!)

A friend who got me into mixing (ex acid-house and rave DJ from the late 80's early 90's) recently started chucking music my way and as I always had a fetish for tough German stuff, he sent me this tune. I'd like to chuck this at a crowd through a sick system! :)

Cheers. Downloading it now and I'll bosh it in my car later.

I should really go and find all the Global Undergrounds that I've missed since Nick Warren's Paris. They're always great value.
