Obama really earned his peace prize now.
in the alternative I want him to go big as possible and get it done with.
While I agree with you here, setting a public timetable pretty much tells our enemies to lay low and it will be business as usual once our soldiers leave. The kind of commitment will turn the tide of foreign support to our enemies for fear of reprisals once we're no longer there to protect them (the supporters).
Makes for a very bad precedence.
It's funny how Bush's surge was criticized but now the Obama fanboys are sniffing his ass over his own little surge.
Obama said the whole time he was running for president that he was going to step up our resources in Afghanistan. We will go from 30k troops there before he took office (now 70k troops) to around 100k troops + 35k more troops from other countries. He has also laid out a timetable at the beginning of this expansion, which if he sticks to it, means this shit will be over by reelection time.
While I wish we weren't there at all, in the alternative I want him to go big as possible and get it done with.
Ultimately he is doing exactly what he said he was going to do.
Exactly. Anyone who payed attention to his words during the campaign knows he's doing exactly what he said he would. Anyone who voted for him -- unless they are ignorant or stupid -- voted for an escalation in Afghanistan.
If he gets the job done, our enemies "laying low" won't matter because the afghan forces will be capable of handling the job themselves.
In the meantime , he will get more much needed support from his base by doing this. He also gets more support from our allies, where the sell is even harder. Worst case he can change the plan based on how things have gone at that point.
Obama isn't retarded, I know the right likes to think he is, but he is very capable of calculating possible scenarios. Think about what the right would be saying right now if he pulled us out.
Also I don't think its appropriate to compare this to the iraq surge decision. But either way, if you are going, go fucking big, not half assed.
No, he's definitely not retarded but he is acting very stupidly when he doesn't accept the advice of his military leaders and takes the solution down his own path. I wouldn't try heart surgery on myself - I'd rather get someone who knows what they're doing to do it instead.
it was his entire platform.
Sometimes I get so confused when people say shit like "you only think sarah palin is retarded because of the gotcha media and democratic talking points" and then i remember that fucking nobody pays attention to anything, so the "liberal outrage" shouldn't surprise me here.
what advice is he ignoring? The only thing i've heard is that he was asked for 40k troops and is bringing 30-35k instead.
Also I'd argue part of this has to be political (his rustling of support), and in that situation he is the heart surgeon.
Likewise on the right you have the tards that are all like OMGZ he's an arab and he's gonna give Texas and our white women to Al Qeada and if you voted for him you're the 19th hijacker! And all along he's been one of the most hawkish on Afghanistan.

It really sucks balls, because we elected him to get us out of there and Iraq. Nobody wins in Afghanistan (go ask the Russians and the British). It's lose-lose for us.
