3D Printers. Game Changer if this is for real.

I especially enjoyed the part where the wrench he "scanned" isn't different model than the wrench he printed.

3d printers have been around for a while, and they are getting more affordable all the time. What use to be called a 'rapid prototype machine'.

They do a good job of getting just a giant retard to show you it too.

There are machines that do this with metal also. The last time I saw them at MSOE (several years ago) they where sort of rough, betcha they've come a long way by now.

My cousin ran one of those in college.

If they could use carbon nanotubes as the material it would be quite amazing. If stepper motors came down in price it would also make things more interesting.

We had one of those at our University. I saw it in action back when I thought majoring in Engineering was a good idea.

I want a Zprinter. I don't know what the hell I'd do with it, but I've wanted one for a couple years. Really, they are not that expensive. The 650 runs about $50k.

Yeah, that scanning technology is dubious. There is no way that shit exists... I was a CNC machinist for 4 years, and if we could have just scanned prototypes and generated G-code I would've at least heard about it.

Your right. They make it look like you can just scan it and it'll work. Sorry it wont. You need to generate a proper 3d model to do it. If you have a good 3d model it'll work though, you need tolerances and all that jaz though.
