The Associated Press: Colombia frees Betancourt, Americans

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombia says its military has rescued former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, three U.S. military contractors and 11 other hostages from leftist rebels.

Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos says no one was hurt in Wednesday's operation in eastern Colombia.

He said army commandos captured rebels manning a security ring around the hostages and got them to persuade their comrades to turn over the captives, without any loss of life.

Santos says the other 11 hostages freed were Colombian soldiers and police.

Congrats man, must be a good feeling. How do you fit into all of it? What did you have to surveil?
 
This is huge news here in France. They've been talking about getting Ingrid Betancourt released for such a long time but nothing ever came of it. Recent pictures showed her extremely thin and clearly ill.

Glad to see them all free but there are still 1000s of hostages in Columbia.

I had a small role that involved a lot of shift work these past 4 years - thats all I can say on here pretty much.

Still on top of the world right now :D
 
Congrats dude, I've seen this covered on the news all day. First my friend's uncle is on CNN for some breaking news and now you haha. Pretty cool sting operation, straight out of a movie. :D
