The NDAA is back again with the new and improved 2013 version. The Senate version of the bill was originally amended to ensure that US citizens would be exempt from indefinite detention.

According to the NY Times:

Lawmakers charged with merging the House and Senate versions of the National Defense Authorization Act decided on Tuesday to drop a provision that would have explicitly barred the military from holding American citizens and permanent residents in indefinite detention without trial as terrorism suspects

After that amendment was dropped it passed the House and Senate without the exemption for US citizens.

I hate the ACLU, but honestly, they are the only group with the balls to take this to court.

Perfect time to slip it by with all the attention on the fiscal cliff. Just think, 4 more years of this. No telling how long, if ever, until the damage from this shit show is repaired.

The Senate approved that amendment — sponsored by Senators Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, and Mike Lee, Republican of Utah — in a surprise vote last month.

In a surprise vote last month. All this quick, shady stuff... Jimmes Rustled.

the huge bill covers a range of military and national security matters, including a 1.7 percent pay raise for the troops and the legislative imposition of new sanctions on Iran.

More $$$ going overseas to a worthless war.. When their is a fiscal cliff.. Rustled.

US citizens would be exempt from indefinite detention

RUSTLED..

The White House has threatened to veto the bill over several provisions that the conference committee kept. But it was not clear whether President Obama will do so; in previous years he made similar threats only to sign it anyway

Yeah he was "unclear" for a reason, he's not signing shit, lol. brb sweeping under the rug, brb signing it was his original intent.

But it dropped a House provision that would have prohibited a civilian prosecution of foreign terrorism suspects who also fell under the jurisdiction of a military commission.

Brb doesn't matter if you are a citizen.. They CAN arrest you, hold you forever, no lawyer, no due process. The government OWNS YOU ALL NOW. They can do WHATEVER they want to you, whenever they want. Who's to say they can't when they can take you away to some prison and never let you out until you die.. Kinda reminiscent of concentration camps..

We are fucked. Srs. I want the constitution back. :( Those liberties..

I think the US gov is pushing the boundaries to see how long peoples can take up their butts (obviously, people like it)

Good luck bros!

Europeans enjoy a large, strong government who can indefinitely detain them, and a weak constitution whose civil protections are constantly eroded. Why can't you?

Hold up now let's think about this...

1. Americans can be held indefinitely without trial.

2. There are 800 operational FEMA camps around the U.S.

3. They are trying to take our guns away.

Nah, I'm just being paranoid; there's no relationship between the three.

Most of you can live anywhere you want, so why so many of you continue living in the West is beyond me. It's quite obvious the West isn't going to turn around tomorrow, and start on a prosperous journey. All the while, Latin America and SE Asia are doing great right now. Go move to a country that's prospering right now. Just the general attitude of people even make it worthwhile.

Can you elaborate a bit more on how the general attitude of the people differs from what you see in the west? Haven't been to Latin America, and I'm curious to know what you think.

Should note, the closest I've ever gotten to Latin America is Mexico and Barbados, although it is a regret of mine. Economies there seem to be on an upswing too, so I'm just assuming it's the same as SE Asia, but could be wrong.

What I meant though is it's quite obvious this is boom times for them, and there's more money floating around than there used to be. This affects every facet of society, including the guy who sells pork at the market, my next door neighbor who owns a small convenience store, the new factory owner, bank manager, etc.

It's obvious people have more money than they did before though, so everyone is happy, relaxed, no stress, enjoying the days, and looking forward to the future. Whereas in the West, I'm assuming people are stressed out, worried, and dreading the future because things are continuously getting harder as the years tick by.

Can't say I'm surprised, but that doesn't make it any less depressing. The only thing we can do is spread the word and hope it will somehow make an impact.

6 Years ago I thought Ron Paul was a dangerous crazy lunatic, now I see him as our last hope ... I was a lifelong Republican and now, I no longer identify with the core of the party. Our country is going to hell fast ...

Amendment 28 -- All of the above are optional.

Amendment 29 -- Terrorism is scurry.

Amendment 30 -- Fuck you.

5th amendment, 2nd amendment shits useless. If our god thinks we don't need them, we don't need or want them. I think he should send someone to your house and kill you for talking this way about your government.

It has to get worse before it gets better...

Unfortunately, there are just too many dumb, intellectually lazy people in this country to do anything at this point.

However, the only chance our children and grandchildren have is for us to eventually rise up and free ourselves from this fucked up system we have now. And the only way that will happen is when enough of the stupid people, stop being stupid and get unified behind a common goal.

This is a fucked up time in our country and it's only gonna get worse!
