$6 million... for a pretend house on a pretend world

well actually this is quite common, for sure not for this amounts, but I guess it's bought as advertising space / selling in-game space and might be more like an investment than a pure fun purchase of a rich billionaire kid ;)

This isn't like second life, I remember this game from years ago. The game actually uses REAL currency to purchase items. You can put money in and take money out just like a bank. You spend $50 get a new gun, go hunting for shit, kill it sell the goods and possible get your $50 back.

It was an amazing idea for a game when it came out. The guys that buy the land own the rights to it. Some people charge a hunting license fee, I guess others make malls or something. The key is the game currency does in fact in this game equal real currency 10 in game equals 1 USD you can actually make money given enough time and investment. The company that I think is also a real bank does it all for you, you do not have to find a buyer.

I actually remember they have server wide announcements when someone kills something major. Like "Player just killed Rare Monster for a value of $100".

Fascinating. How do they comply with banking regulations and international currency control standards?

I would also note than when it says he bought Planet Calypso that each planet is basically a server. He did not just buy a small piece of land he bought a whole server. So any and all transactions that take place on it he will get a cut.

Edit: That also means he gets to sell all of the land on said planet.

Yea I use to play this awhile back. Its a good looking game with a great concept, but this is is a rich mans playground. You would have to spend about 200-500$ just to get up to a decent "level" in order to even see potential of making any money.

The real money comes from people who do the real estate stuff, But the prices for anything decent like a shop start at about $2,000 for a virtual shop for a crappy location. Good mall locations can go up to 6-8k. And that only buys you the location. You would have to literally work your ass off to keep it stocked and keep up with prices and advertise etc etc. Its literally a full time job. And most of these people are lucky if they even make a couple hundred bucks a month for all their effort.

I have a friend who just bought a shop about 2 months ago. He asked me for the money to fund his shop. I said fuck that its a total waste of money. So he scrapped up some money and bought a shop. He's barely breaking even every month after he has to pay his rent fees.

Its pretty much like the real world. 99% of the people who play will never make money. They will only deposit. Some will get lucky and hit that Hall of fame kill, hit a good mining spot, or craft something good that beernuts was talking about which could actually pay you 10-20k if your extremely lucky, But you have a better chance getting struck by lightning. Most only pay out 10-100$

Funny thing is theres a lot of people who play that game who don't or cant deposit money. They do some shit called sweating. The amount of time it takes to make such a small amount of money would be the equivalent of about 20-30cents an hour. LOL. Chinese gold farmers get paid better than that.

Overall, its a very boring game. Unless your willing to dedicate a lot of time and money into it then don't even bother. If I was filthy rich then yea id fucking buy all kinds of shit. For being such a boring game which probably has a drop out rate of about 95% of all people who try it.. The real estate prices only go up. Which is hard to believe. Id say theres only about 5,000 people active. Max.

Reminds me of that restaurant in Israel where they serve imaginary food. Cafe Ke'ilu was the name I think. Last I heard they were expanding and shit.
