Um, also not verifiable.

The article claims Wyatt Emerich of The Cleveland Current as the source of this story (you know, the guy who did the research) but when I went to theclevelandcurrent.com to check up on it. I couldn't find it.

There are no links to the original story from the story in the link above.

Pardon me for being anal. I went to journalism school a long time ago. Please don't think less of me.

Jeepers guys, I just spend five minutes of my life checking out theclevelandcurrent.com and couldn't find a whiff of that article. However, I did find these classics:

and..
A Pulitzer worthy article on Cleveland "Fish Lady":

While I'm too lazy to do it myself, he does say "Almost all welfare programs have Web sites where you can call up "benefits calculators." Just plug in your income and family size and, presto, your benefits are automatically calculated."; as if to say, "You don't have to take my word for it."

this is the truth of every socialist nation.
scandinavia and most of northwest europe are already like this. people on welfare have higher quality of life than workers earning above 3, but below 6k. the people earning this 3000-5999 are F U C K ED. not poor enough to receive the same benefits as welfare receipients, yet still not quite rich enough to be financially independent.

to governments, having a large amount of people under their arm is beautiful. when 3/4 of your country's livelilooh is the DIRECT result of government and not their own 2 hands, YOU HAVE A NATION OF PUPPETS.

socialism = communist without the chains. instead of the chains, they tie you with food that wasn't made by you. think about this.

why do you think the HDI Index always shows the most socialist nation as the happiest people? because free money and free services with low ownership (because all of that is taxed away from you!) makes the average DUMB FUCK happy!! and since 90% of any country's population has no further wishes in life besides what governments provide, you get a very beautiful, socialist life.

Welcome to Socialism , all americans. Europe has lived like this since 1951. hope you enjoy it. it's going to be here to stay.

I would say it's sort of misleading, for example medicade and chip are forms of insurance, so those numbers are not paid directly out to the individuals but to where they revive care.

tough call. the 60k family has to output for their own medical expenses.

Its kind of funny that a bunch of people involved with internet marketing are falling for this political marketing.

I know a lot of you are wealthy around here but dont become so disconnected that you fall for bullshit like this. People arent living easy out there using benefits calculators lol

I personally know of an example where someone on state/federal aid is able to spend all the time on discretionary things like cell phones, TVs, Xbox360+PS3, etc.

The system seems to assume that if you are working for minimum wage you must be incapable, in some way, of getting and maintaining a better paying job. I don't know.

The welfare system as a whole needs to be restructured. My girlfriend works retail and has told me that she has to bite her tongue each time someone comes in and gets a 20oz soda and a small bag of chips then swipes their welfare card. 20oz sodas, at least here, are as much or more than an entire 2 liter.

I use to think that drug testing should be required, randomized or whatever, to get welfare, too. But a friend recently pointed out that while it would help the system by stopping leeches it would more than likely put child services into action. Basically putting the burden of caring for the kids on the system... but in many cases the kids would be better off (imho).

Has anyone ever thought how this overall situation would be different if someone was required to have a vasectomy or a tubal ligation after they were on welfare for longer than a year? You know, identify the ones who can't fend for themselves even when given the protection of a safety net, prevent reproduction, profit?

Human Rights FTL...

I know a lot more than one example.

So do I. All you have to do is drive by some of the govt subsidized housing.
Look at those cars, and look at those rims! And who knows what kind of stereo system they got inside!

Look, I'm in the checkout line at the grocery store, and the guy in front of me is paying with food stamps while wearing a $180 pair of Jordans. They "need" all of that, but cannot afford their own rent, groceries and etc...?

Come on now...

Yep, they are here too. a 20oz is usually $1.48 or so, and 2 liters are almost always $1, sometimes even 88 cents on sale. I don't think soda should even be available to purchase..milks, juice, & water should be it. I know tap water is almost free, but some people just have bad water, so I'd allow the cheap $1 gallons of spring water..none of that $5 for a liter Fiji crap.

I know a girl on food stamps, she told me she couldn't buy sliced meat from the deli (better quality than the prepackaged stuff), it wasn't allowed for some reason....but she did manage to buy about 50 OUNCES OF CHOCOLATE to use in making candy! I told her thanks for wasting my money! At least she admitted that it was a messed up system.

I wouldn't really give a fuck about the welfare system if the majority of people would use it correctly. There's too many people gaming the system. I once was waiting in line at a local grocery store behind a young Hispanic couple with four little kids. They bought a shit load of stuff and used food stamps. I didn't think anything about it. I only had a few things and walked outside to find that same couple putting their groceries in a brand new Cadillac Escalade with custom rims and a custom chrome grill. It's bullshit. How can the government allow a family to receive an absurd amount of benefits because they can't afford "basic necessities" but allow them to drive a 40k car.
