Well to be totally honest - I could have understood everything wrong but, heres a few questions anyway.

1) How influential is a Landing page? I've read a few times people just Direct link? Which i assume means it just goes to the sale page of the product?

2) As im new to Affiliate marketing are Affiliate Networks even going to accept me? I mean, to be totally honest i want to experiment and test things, but i don't expect a high return, or even a return at all...

Thanks again, and apologies if i've got everything wrong.

1. It can be very effective. It is often used on offers where affiliates are trying to get the customer to pull out their wallet. Essentially they are trying to prepare you to buy something. Direct linking can work for offers as well.

2. Certain networks won't because they want people who have been here a while, but there are many that will. There are a bunch of people from the networks that are here, tell them your situation, I would imagine some of them will let you in.

Ring the networks. a website helps.

1. Depends largely on the offer you are running on whether or not an LP would be better. However, there are some people that use an LP no matter what (dating, mobile, etc) when others are fine direct linking those offers.

Like the 2nd guy said, typically an LP is best if you are trying to get the consumer to use their credit card. Pre-sell them and make $$$

2. Some networks don't like new affiliates, but generally if you sign up through someone's affiliate link, they are more likely to contact you than if you go in empty. Also, a day or so after you apply, give them a call. They understand that all affiliates start somewhere, even the ballers.

Also, they don't care about returns, you could generate $1M in revenue and spend $1M to make it. They make money on the revenue you generate them. (just fyi)

Hell, you could spend $2 billion and "only" make back $50 million and you would be the all-time superstar of the Affiliate Marketing world because nobody except for you would know how much money you spent to get that traffic hahaha.

Everybody has been new at some point in time. There are some networks that only work with high volume affiliates that already have a lot of knowledge, but there are a lot of networks that will let you in. Most networks just want the impression that you are there to try and not cause trouble.

Having a website will help in the process of getting into CPA Networks because the person screening your application can see that you are putting forth effort to actually create websites/landers and you are headed in the right direction of promoting offers correctly and cleanly.

Like others said... Websites work and direct linking works. You just need to feel out the traffic, the offer, the niche, and once you get more advanced there are other variables to consider with your own lander like capturing data and reusing it for other purposes (basically making the best use of the traffic hitting/converting on the site).
