I think that a sort of mentorship program would be wicked. Nothing beats being able to ask a real person your questions one-on-one, when you're just starting out.

The hard part might be getting the more experience people to volunteer to help newbs, but I mean judging from the Newbie Questions section, there are already a lot of experienced people giving back. If we could have a section where new people could ask for a mentor, then the senior members, etc, could volunteer to help them out.

Something to consider.

We might have to wait till they get old like the retired volunteers at the small business administration (SBA) here in the US.

A great idea, but I don't blame anyone for not volunteering. Time is valuable and some that would want help are looking for a short cut because they are lazy. There are those, of course, that are working hard and just need a mentor to add a few pieces to put it all together and move up to the next level.

My son helps me and I move forward in leaps and bounds when we get some time to go over stuff together. I guess he's my mentor. I don't expect it for free and will write for one of his sites in exchange for his help. In our family we treat each other at least as well as we would a stranger. We repay each other for help, not because we have to, but because its right. Trouble is, most of us noobs don't have anythng to trade that the experienced ones need!

The only thing a mentor could really do is show you exactly where to find it. Read 2-3 hours a day, implement the ideas for 5-6 and you will be on a roll in no time.

Many industries are very closed and secretive; then having a mentor is a must. SEO and affiliate marketing is very, very open. You just need to have the ability to read, implement, and test -- and if you can't do that, a mentor isn't going to be much help.

If you are really weak in one area, say programming, then it pays to find someone who is the opposite & you can share your strengths and weaknesses.

all valid points. just throwing it out there as something to consider.

and, yes it is very open, etc. but occasionally you have a fairly specific question, you know?

and yes, I realize time is money in this business, which would make the logistcal side of it very hard to work.
