I posted a thread here last year about the feature film I made in 2008 with profits from affiliate marketing.

I've been focused on making money the past 2 years instead of going broke trying to finishing the film and get raped by a distributor.

Kidding aside, I know I need to finish it (it's 95% done) and start building a list for it. Filmmaking is my passion, but daddy needs an RV =P

Anyway, I'm just getting around to noticing that it's 2 years ago today that we finished wrapping for the shoot, and that's getting me a little depressed that I haven't started building a list for it yet or doing any of the marketing I wanted to do online.

I'm kinda wondering if anyone is interested in helping me build a list for this film (horror comedy) so I can start updating folks and making announcements about giveaways, contests or screenings, and of course begging to buy the DVD when it's done.

Here's what I have so far:

The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger
The Legend of the Psychotic Forest Ranger | Facebook

I know, not much yet.

Here's a pic of the concept I had drawn up to capture emails:

warning2.jpg.jpg

basically it's an email opt in form spun as a warning. You need to give us your name and email and digital signature that you are clearing us of liability to any bodily harm or mental damage caused by watching the trailer, because it's that terrifying...or something along those lines.

Anyway, I have some ideas to do some viral marketing like mixing together footage of the film with footage of real 80s horror movies and linking that to the site's page.

I'm just kinda looking for someone here who may also be a huge fan of cheesy 80s horror movies, who happens to know SEO pretty well, who might want to manage a list and help me get this on the go.

Any takers

You could build a movie site, starting with all the new movies that are coming out, and have yet to come out (apple.com/trailers). Put up trailers for them on Youtube and funnel all that traffic over to your site. In prime real estate, put a fat ass banner to a page about your movie. You will get tons of impressions to your movie. New and current movies have retarded traffic

You could also target people in FB Ads who like similar films, and market directly to them

Garrett good ideas, how certain are you about the traffic for movie sites, and do you have any idea if that would actually work in practice? Can you make a dent in search traffic for new movies with a new site these days?

joevis - where's the connection between my movie and Shark Tank, I'm not following lol

look at how many views trailers on Youtube get. you can siphon a hell of a lot of traffic by being consistent with new movies

Lol @ the guys surname in that Dragons Den Clip "McFail", brilliant.

DD makes me cringe, so does that movie trailer, hope you didnt waste too much money on it OP :/

I know what Dragons Den is, but I'm still not making the connection, what does my movie have to do with Dragons Den?

I love Dragon's Den! I also love my movie, so thanks but :action-smiley-052:

Garrett I like your ideas man - would you be interested in helping out?

Yaxxx, the UK version is awesome, but give the Canadian version a shot:

Dragons' Den | CBC Television

The one that was posted above wasn't that good. There's some really good ones there, if you love the UK version you'll like this one too.

Wait, how did this become a discussion about Dragon's Den?

I am a big fan of cheesy horror and b-movies but that is not taking my interest at all :/

The Psychotic Forest Ranger just doesn't do it for me. You've given away too much and the idea isn't that appealing. At the very least I would leave out the word psychotic and leave it as 'The Legend of the Forest Ranger' which still leaves some mystery and intrigue. I see what you were trying to do but I think you've missed. I also like the DeRanger because its such a ridiculously awful title that it makes me giggle. Films that make me giggle at the title make me investigate and usually result in watching.
Also pentagrams are hollywood nonsense not true b-movie cheese. Leave it out unless you have plot that backs up its usage.

Now to the important part, there is next to no low budget gore and not a single blood splatter in that trailer. Why? All horror movie fans want is fake blood splatter and you're not providing that.
At the moment I just don't see anything drawing me in to watch this movie. You will need to work on that to succeed in a marketing campaign. If you fail to see the problem its possible that you need to rethink the genre you're placing it under because at the moment I have no desire to watch that film.

Thanks for the input, I agree that the trailer doesn't show much of the gore, its just one trailer of a few we are going to make. The next one we are definitely going to show more skin scenes and gore shots, completely agree with you on that one =)

I based this off of some old b horror movie trailers - a lot of them were done really bad with really cheesy claims.

And btw, how can you say pentagrams are not true b-movie cheese? What kind of 80s b horror fan are you...have you not seen Sleepaway camp, psycho cop, basket case, etc...

BTW I'm finding it a little bit strange how this thread is getting a mostly negative response, when the last thread I had on this was an overwhelmingly positive supportive response.

Nice man, I remember seeing you post something similar a while back. Actually created a film as well, although independent of AM stuff.

We have over 100,000 fans from my marketing efforts, so definitely possible to get some nice momentum as a smaller film. Facebook is pretty cost effective and you get a nice multiplier effect for most part. Targeted similar films is a great way to go about it.

I didn't see the last thread. But your trailer definitely does need some work so maybe that put people off. I think if cheesy is what you're going for, you're not cheesing it up nearly enough. Slasher flicks are on the low end of watchable films, imo and I'm used to the cheesiest of cheese so it takes some ridiculousness to get my attention. I imagine a lot of seasoned B-movie enthusiasts feel the same but I can't speak for them. The filming actually looks pretty good (I have much worse quality on dvd) but I can't say much else on the film itself based on what you've given. If you want someone to write reviews feel free to send a copy.
Good luck with your film :)

dude, a zombie western, that looks awesome. What do you mean by 'independent of am' though?

You know another dude from WF is making another film in the next couple weeks, the guy that made zombies zombies zombies, maybe you should hook up with him.

What did you film it on?
What was your budget?
How did you get 100,000 facebook fans?
Do you have a large email list?
