I have to :facepalm at some of the business ideas that even make it on to this show, I'm sure some of you are working on stuff that they'd be interested in.

ABC.com - Shark Tank - ABC.com - Shark Tank - Casting

The producers of the ABC reality series Shark Tank are on a nationwide search to discover the next successful - and possibly wealthy - entrepreneurs, inventors, businesspersons, dreamers, promoters, creators and innovators. In each episode, budding entrepreneurs are given the unprecedented chance to make their business dreams come true.

Whether you just have an idea, are a start up, or are already operating successfully and looking to expand, if you feel you have a lucrative business/idea and could use financial backing then Shark Tank is just the show for you. Casting is looking for aspiring entrepreneurs who can pitch their breakthrough business concepts, products, properties and services to moguls in hopes of landing investment funds. If selected, five self-made, brilliant, but tough investors (the Sharks) could be willing to part with their own hard-earned cash and provide you the funding you need to jumpstart your idea. But the Sharks aren't just out to invest; they too have a goal -- to own a piece the venture.

Your business idea should be top-notch and something the Sharks will really want to sink their teeth into. It might even spark a bidding war between them. Who knows - you could be the fortunate entrepreneur who gets the Sharks to reveal the true level of their interest and bid up the price of your investment!

Apply now for your chance to enter the Shark Tank and see if your idea is good enough for a Shark investment.

yeah I wanna invent a fart catcher.

u know I love the smell of my AssGas but trying to catch it with my bare hand and bring it up to my nose is not so effective.

Maybe Kevin oleary will back me since he is such an A$$Hole!

LOL yes, I saw the casting call posted somewhere else and laughed because I thought somebody was just trollin' for business ideas, I went to the official ABC page and clicked agree to view the contact information and it was that yahoo email........and then I laughed even harder.

Same here. I was about to reply giving you shit for trying to steal people's business ideas. Then I went to the page, and it's true, they're actually using a Yahoo e-mail account. lol

Is it just me, or does anyone else not get how you can invest your money in any company from a 10 minute pitch?

Its just you. 99% of business deals are done in 5 or 10 minutes everything beyond that is just details

If it's like dragons den over here, they actually film like an hour or so, and then just edit it down to 5 minutes. They also don't fully agree there and then, they do due diligence after the show.

This. They can back out at any time before docs are signed.

I once saw them (the two Canuck Sharks) tear a website owner's ass off on the CDN Dragon's Den once, when he went asking for money to expand his local news site platform to other towns.

Not sure if he just did a horrible job explaining things, or his reasonable ideas were cut out in editing, but either way I'd be sure to have a really good (and already profitable) business plan before facing these guys on international TV.

Utter bullshit.

Obviously you have never sold anything before. If you had you would realize that your deal is done in 10 minutes or less (this can happen in the beginning, middle or end of the talks) and as stated before the rest of the time is just sorting out the details.

Happens all the time at angel forums. If you're lucky and qualified, you get a 2 - 5 minute slot to pitch your idea to a room of investors.

Obviously more happens after that if any of the investors are interested though. They don't just say, "great 3 minute speech, here's $50,000!".

Oh, I'm sorry. I've only founded and sold a tech start-up. Sorry, I've also been through TechStars Boulder.

Heh, I guess I don't know shit!

Again, your post is utter bullshit.

Stop and think for two seconds about what I said. I didn't say you couldn't have a deal take days, weeks, months or even years. What I am saying is the actual part that seals the deal is established relatively quickly and can occur during any part of the actual process. Think what you want but at least try to open your mind up just a tiny little bit and consider the psychology, and emotions that make up the most significant part of the process, and consider what kind of impact it has (good, bad, or other)

This doesn't change anything. Your post is still utter bullshit. If you think investors are swayed within 10 minutes you have never, ever been at a roundtable discussion. Fuck, you don't even get funding in less than 3 meetings.

My meetings with Fred Wilson, Brad Feld, Jason Calacanis, and Rob Hayes took a hell of a long time. Was there interest piqued during my elevator pitch? Sure. Was it anything more than curiousity and a piqued interest? Absolutely not.

Obviously your a bit to small minded to consider the point, so just carry on and forget we had this conversation
