Abstinence Education Doesn't Work.

Of course its not down the drain, its in the pockets of the abstinence education industry.

You would've thought they'd have realised by now - telling kids not to do something doesn't fuckin work!!

Bush didn't listen to his daddy when he was hoovering half of Columbia up his nose, why does he think kids today will listen to the pseudo-Christian moral lecturing of these classroom preachers!?

Sex is a natural human instinct for fuck's sake, the idea of marriage came a long long time after people started fucking.

There are a lot more reasons other than religious ones to practice abstinence

What's the supposed benefit of abstinence? Becoming a self-righteous prick?

I think anstinence is one of the most honorable things someone can do. Although most think its just paper, mairrage is supposed to be a holy sacred union and giving yourself to that person and that person only shows the love and togetherness you both share. Why am i saying all this, your a self righteous prick who wont listen to a word.

I agree, and if it's for personal reasons then fine. Everyone is entitled to make there own choices, not to be educated/brainwashed into following the moral beliefs of others.

I'm not in America, but the reports suggest abstinence is being promoted for religious reasons - though this is the media and when do they ever tell the whole story?

I've gotta say though it does concern me when kids have kids - ya know, 11 years olds, etc... that seems to me a bit wrong.

Though, it's only over the last few hundred years that the normal age to start reproducing has gone up and many other cultures start breeding as soon as they can. So maybe it's western society that has conditioned us into thinking it's wrong... (Just thoughts, not opinions...)

...Personally I think you shouldn't reproduce unless you are in a position to look after the child - mature enough, in a stable relationship and able to afford it.

As for sex - surely it's up to the individual to chose? If my government was spending my money promoting values like this to children here I'd be pissed off. It's like the drugs education of the 80s - Just say no!

Any form of moral education should be about giving people the information and resources to enable them to make there own choices, not telling them what they should or shouldn't do.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the separation of church and state is not as clear in America as it is in most of Europe, though I understand it is in your constitution.

They aren't telling kids in classrooms to not have sex because the Bible says so. They are saying it for the numerous other reasons. Is that enough separation of church and state for you?

Your kidding if yourself think any high school kids are practicing abstinence by choice :1orglaugh:

Sure some might have a sexual disorder, but that really doesn't count.

If you ever catch Penn & Tellers BULLSHIT show...they did a grea episode on this subject. :)

I guess it depends what the other reasons are - no sex until you are mature enough makes sense, but from what I can see it's not about that it's about no sex before marriage.

Or no sex before a civil union if you are homosexual? ... Seeing as this is not at all about religion the people teaching this would have no reason to oppose gay rights would they?

Or is this happening in the same schools that teach creationism?

Aside from the right to think for yourself, there's also health issues:

Researchers from Yale and Columbia Universities studied 12,000 adolescents and found that teens pledging virginity until marriage were more likely to have oral and anal sex than other teens who didn't have intercourse. Such behaviour increased the risk of sexually transmitted diseases. bbc

I'd love to here the thoughts on this of anyone involved in the adult entertainment side of internet marketing.... any porn barons about??

Yeah, I saw this episode, you can probably find it online. The clips from one of the abstinence education classes were laughable.

I went to a private high school and the shit they told the students was a fucking joke. Condoms fail sometimes so they won't protect you from HIV, your boyfriend doesn't really care about you, and so on. The people that are teaching this are so self-delusional that they can't even understand what the kids are actually interpreting from what they are telling them.

Not to mention the fucking Vatican banning the use of condoms and passing off abstinence as the only way to prevent AIDS in Africa (and around the world). How many people are dead or dieing because of this bullshit?

???

You're entitled to your opinion. But since when does marriage mean abstinence?
From what I know people turn frustrated and grumpy (and self-righteous) when they don't have sex. That was all I wanted to say.

Im pretty sure Kaveman was saying that abstaining from sex until marriage is one of the most honorable things someone can do.

I would not be using Aldous Huxley as a reference... let alone a moral compass

Proof Abstinence Works!
.

How else would they be practicing it by.....
I remember in high school health class, the super religious girl of the class did a presentation on abstinence. She asked members of the class to sign papers pledging to wait until marriage. I don't want to sound like a dick, but the fat and ugly girls immediately got up and signed, no one else did.

Yes they are. The Bible is why they are telling them the other reasons. It's like promoting intelligent design based on it's scientific merit and we all know that's a complete joke.

I'm not saying classes should promote sex but they should teach about all the choices, abstinence, safe sex, etc. The classes really are about "your boyfriend doesn't really like you," "you'll probably get aids," and so on.
