Accidentally Got My Pagerank Reading Ability Banned

Was compiling a list of blogs for our linkbuilders using some new tool and completely forgot to use a proxy. Only time I've run this is today so I'm pretty surprised they put the smackdown on that so quickly.

Now my ability to scrape PR seems to have been disabled. Neither toolbar works in firefox or IE and I'd check that tool but I think I've done enough harm.

Any way to undo this "ban"? I'm on cable internet, so would asking for a new IP work? Sure would suck to have to use proxies anytime I need to look up one site.

(Disclaimer: yeah, I know pr doesn't mean anything - but my boss & clients don't believe it)
 


You can just wait a while, you'll be unbanned eventually.

Try throttling your bot (heh, heh) and using proxies, it's not that hard.

I got banned regularly when I first started working on my first PR bot, it varied from a few hours on up.

I don't think it was ever more than 24 hours, I don't really know, when I got banned I'd just work on something else and get back to it later, usually the next day, and it would be unbanned by then.

By throttling it to no more than 1 request every 1/4 second I was able to get around 8,000 results before being banned.
 
Yeah the magic number for me was 1 second in the end but it could run non stop with no intervention bullet proof so to speak. Every say 1000 requests I would check against a known pagerank and send off any alerts if it all went pear shaped. Not sure how long it takes to get unbanned but I get a new IP address from my ISP if I reset my router.

Next step is to figure a way I could reset my router in PHP to get a new IP. I'm looking for a remotely controlled mains adaptor now :p
 
depending how many times you requested pagerank I know from experience it can take up to 7 days before they allow you to continue.

one of my seo sites has a pagerank checking tool without a captcha, and people were abusing it, it didn't work after that for about a week, after i added the protection it worked again after about 4 days.
