No that isn't horrid, but it shouldn't really be the only measure. Advertorials can be such a long sell you might not want a really high ctr, meaning links in the beginning might be bad for conversions. I would make sure you are monitoring the overall CVR of the path because there does become a point where CTR and CVR can be inversely proportional
 
Like majorbta said, the only metric that really counts is ROI. When split testing, measure how the tests effect your ROI as the primary metric.

This is an interesting point. Definately worth tracking which links on your page lead to conversions to see if links below the fold lead to more or not.
 
I can get my advertorial CTR to 80% easily. CTR is not the issue. What is your EPC from Advertorial to Payout? That's what matters. If it's under $2.00 then GTFO.
