Advice on getting an assistant

I find myself with verry little time during the week and I've been thinking of getting a personal assistant (or virtual assistant rather) for some time now.

Problem is I can't figure out what I could outsource. I began recording what I do on a daily basis and I guess the first task I can outsource is the figguring out of what I can outsource.

Personally I'm having a hard time grapling with the idea that anybody else but me might be able to sort my email for example - what if I miss something important, right? Things like that keep popping up in my mind.

That said, currently on day 3 of the log but curious to know what you guys delegate to your PA's?

Anything that I do that is repetitive and that I can explain how I do it.

Check stats. Manage content writers. Install WP. Reports on sites. Etc.

Make no mistake: taking someone on requires a lot of time and effort in the beginning. You'll realise just how you take your own knowledge and experience for granted.
On the upside, codifying what you do quite often points out areas where you can become more efficient.

Hard work? Yes. Worth it? Depends on you. Essentially to take your enterprise to the next level? Absolutely.

you prob first need to see what you can automate with macros and automation software.. then when you figure out what those are, either write the macros or hire the PA for it. prob solved.

batta bing, batta boom

Or maybe you have a friend that has no job and would do anything at this point. If you have one, make him do all the grunt work.

I was having some similar issues, not having enough time to run all of my websites, etc. So I hired locally and have an employee that comes in and works in my office with me. I personally find it hard to trust that anyone will work hard for you unless you are watching. It costs a bit more, but works out well.

From experience, it's a major PITA.

I'm happy with the guy I have now but he's not perfect and the downtime (training + finding the right person) hurt my production severely.

I'm thinking the way to do it is to get one trained and then always have 1-2 more being trained by your existing VA. Most have short life spans and training new ones costs you hours, which is much more expensive than paying the salary.

1. Train your PA via camtasia videos
2. Hire your local starving college students for cheap (bonus if she's a hot chick)
3. ????
4. Profit!
