I've found that one of my highest converting keywords is actually a misspelling of a major corporation.

Let's say that I had a travel site selling plane tickets and I bid on "dleta airlines"

Could I get in trouble for this?

Thanks!

I've done it, not even with a misspelling. I directly competed with their trademark keyword until they had Google restrict it. I had no problems, made a lot of money though... But I guess I should have been less greedy cause at some point their ad sucked so much that I was outranking them for pennies.

If the corp complains is where you run into issues. Like I was bidding on a version of moneytree a payday loan company name. Then moneytre, monytree, etc, etc and kept getting legal stop letters and they'd block each. They finally gave me a warning saying they'd blacklist me from adwords. So I stopped.

Bidding on trademark keywords can be dangerous, you can go from making hundreds to thousands a day off of just a few trademark keywords and variations to being banned over night. Just because you start making money off of them don't abandon or neglect all your other campaigns because soon enough you will usually be banned. Then you are screwed if it is your only income source.

So most of the time they'll just C&D you? As long as I'm not perma banned from Adwords, its cool.

That's all they ever do is c and d you.

I have been hammered by Rolex and Dell so far.

If you comply all is well and they go away.

try bidding on "dave ramsey" and you'll get a heap of c and d letters from a narly bitch who will threaten to take away your house.

Bidding on trademarked terms is perfectly fine.

Using those terms in your ads though is against their TOS.

Adwords has really gotten kinda strict on this stuff. I had some stuff running for months and then one day I got a email saying that I needed to stop in 24hrs or be banned from adwords. They give warnings just not much of one.

for keywords or for ads? Seeing as they allow you to bid on ANY keyword you choose, only the advertiser should be able to ban you for that

I'm curious if anyone has ran into a situation where Google banned you from bidding on trademark mispelled keywords without the corp actually complaining? I guess it would be hard to tell if a complaint actually came from the corp.

Google does give a shit at all unless someone is complaining. That's the only way you will get banned.
