Anyone using this feature? I was running ads on it with a CPM based bid and it was running awesome 1.1% ctr and almost 2% conversions, which is really good for my niche. Then I tried paying per click on placement. One site that was my bread and butter basically died so I put it back on CPM and it basically is officially dead now. .25 ctr and 0 conversion rate...wtf? Any ideas, or experiences that could shed some light on what the hells happening?
 


Are you sure this is an Adwords problem or a site problem? I was advertising in the UK with a killer ad in a UK forum and was banking a little over $120+ a day profit for 6 days straight before the 7th and 8th day when I had like 1/3 of the impressions. I opened this forum and joined it later that night on the 8th day and had it open on one of my spare machines and read thru some threads and found one where the administrator was talking about a lot of down time over the last two days due to some errors.

I realize this probably is an unlikely scenario, and is actually an Adwords problem, just can't rule out the possibility.

I have the same problem. Was running a CPM add at .50% CTR with good conversions. Then cpc comes in and My CTR drops to .15%. No more positive ROI when I have to pay more per click. I tried buying site targeted cpc adds on the same page but they are too expensive.

My Theories:
CTR went down because the CPM ads are not constantly in the users face like they were before. I checked my site and saw that my ad will only appear once in a while. Before it just kept coming up. Users might need to see the ad a few times before they click.

Other theory is the new cpc site targeted system messed up things technically and thats to blame for the huge drop in CTR. But there is no reason for CTR to go from .50% to .15% when the same ad is being shown in the exact same spot.

Any other ideas?
 
With placement targeting (CPC) you have to over bid and wait. I've noticed it takes up to 4 days to really get rocking.
 
I agree with tob. For some reason CPC placement campaigns seems to start slower than normal CPM campaign. I have now 6 CPC placement campaigns on and only 2 have shown almost any activity at all. This is day 4 for those campaigns. Funny thing is that I'm over bidding to get them showing some results and because I'm testing, I'm using sites that should give me +500k impressions per day :D
