i just started a new campaign....a pretty popular one at that. i used methods very similar to what i saw everyone else doing, but with pretty much zero success. i used very targeted keywords, tight ad groups, good ad copy, good CTR, ...but im barely getting any conversions. i dont get how other people are getting #1 and #2 positions and are making conversions and money. at the very least i should be getting a few conversions...a little profit...what is going on here?

More details would be good. How much data are you going on here? Ad positions? Costs and Revenue? And just to be sure have you double and triple checked your aff links?

ive been running the campaign for a few days. i guess i dont have THAT much data but i would at least expect to be closer to breaking even than i am. the first day i ran the campaign i did ok, making back about 50% of my spend...second day i made back about 80%....then from there i havent had a single conversion in days.

figured that would be the first thing people mentioned....but come on...who hasnt seen something successful and try to mimic it?

Are you using the same landing pages? Keep in mind users tend to click multiple ads. If they already clicked the same ad with the same landing page, they'll leave.

What's "not that much data" mean exactly? 10 clicks 20 clicks 100 clicks?

Basically trying to see if you got lucky here on a couple of clicks.

Have you tried replacing with a similar offer or another network? I'm usually a
little suspect after hitting some consistency and then seeing a big fat zero.

Keep in mind that those top pages probably have a high quality score and pay less for bids. They also probably have high volume and get a better payout.

They also probably tested, tested and tested and acted accordingly.

i think you are right on this. i have a few hundred clicks, which may not be enough.

A few hundred clicks should be enough. I didn't mean that 100 clicks isn't enough, just trying to figure out what "not that much data" meant to you.

But again you're not providing enough information here.

For all I know you could have gotten 1 lead worth $50 on 200 clicks which would mean jack all. Now if you got 20 $18 leads on day 1 off 200 clicks and then 15 on 150 the next day and then zero on 200 the next day we could reach some sort of educated conclusion here.

Unless you post some numbers costs/ctrs/conversions, what type of offer it is (lead, zip submit, sale, etc) we can go around in circles all day.

Trust me, those advertisers in the first 2 positions are paying much lower than you think they are. I remember in one of my campaigns, were I had to bid $1.50 to stay on the front page; but in the last positions. Well, after blowing of money for higher positions; I finally got to the first position. After 5 days, guess how much I was paying per click. The amount was 90 cents. So now not only was I getting more traffic, but paying less.

In the niche your currently in, you most likely have to blow some money for better positions, before you see a good ROI.

Whats your quality score like should be the question, raise it, spend some money, get it up to decrease your bids and get more traffic for less. Pretty simple ;)

i can attend to this.
i'd been well entrenched in a niche for about 2 months regular position 2 or 3 paying 0.30 - 0.35 ctr 18-24%. anyways tried another competing product from a different account with the same keyword. $1 didn't get me in the top 5!
