Also... backlinks

The number of backlinks you get per day should look 'natural'.

So what does that mean?

5 per day every day is not natural
10 per day every day is not natural
1000 one day and then none for the next 6 weeks is not natural

That's not to say that you can't gain 1000 good links in one day and they not count (think viral content that is shared all over the internet 1 week) but its likely that that content would die off in some sort of exponential fashion.

Likewise non-viral content would probably gain links in starts and fits and but overall gain traction as the content ranks higher and more people see it and more people link to it... aka the content would build momentum.

So my advice?

5 one day, 7 the next, 2 the next, 10 the next, 0 the next.... etc.

Days that you post something new/update.... add more links (as this should happen with natural links - fresh content fresh links)

TL:DR - Make your links look natural and don't just add X links per day.

Thanks.

I read this:
3. Another way to create backlinks is simply to Ping your FEED
Once I get the RSS, I PING it to

feedagg.com
feedest.com
feedping.com,
pingomatic.com
pingoat.com.
I use feedburner for my blog.

Now I ping these sites a maximum of once a week and NO MORE, otherwise you might get blacklisted.

...also and I don't really understand the concept here. Do I have to enable an rss feed or is that something that comes with a preset theme (wordpress)?

I'm an aggressive linkbuilder. Spread the love. Start manually, but once you figure out what you like, automate and/or outsource. Here's ideas for the spread:

1. Social Bookmarks
2. Press Releases
3. Forums (Both Postings and Signatures)
4. Blogs - both in other peoples' content and also as comments
5. Web 2.0 Properties / Linkwheels ... "randomly" interlink and occasionally/randomly link to your site
6. Articles

Feel free to aggregate links into an RSS feed, and ping the RSS feeds. You can also ping your Social Bookmarks and Press Releases, and backlink your backlinks.

I am concerned less with nofollow/dofollow on the blogs and social bookmarks. Whatever's natural looks... natural. I also don't waste tons of money going after high PR links. I'm personally more into quantity over quality :)

Question regarding backlinks relating to this OT.

It takes time for backlinks to be found, correct? Because I've been doing a lot of backlink work lately but when I use tools to check how many I have it only says 2. This is because it takes time, or because I added them too quickly?

it takes time, which is a good thing

You need to aim for a number that you can create consistently. If you build 20 backlinks in a day, and then none for awhile, then 50 in a day, etc... the search engines are going to see those drastic differences and become suspicious.

If you only have time to do 5 in a day, that's fine. Just make sure you keep up with it.

An RSS feed comes with Wordpress. If you go in your Wordpress Dashboard and click on Settings -> Writing and then scroll down to Update Services, you can see the places that will be pinged when you change anything on your site.

Thanks for that.
