I am trying to learn the in's and out's of PPC -> affiliate marketing and am having 0 success. The company i am trying to send traffic through has a pretty good landing page that they provide for their affiliates but it just doesnt seem to convert. Does it work to send traffic directly to the company's store/site or should you always have some sort of self made landing page for the users to go through. I know landing pages are really important but as a consumer i'd rather go straight to shopping then have to go through some joe blow sales site. Maybe im just special...

If you were you send PPC traffic to the top level page of the company's site I don't think you're going to convert much of anything.

I'm browsing google, I click on an ad. When I get to the next page I want to see things related to the ad that I just clicked on. Expand on your ad copy, give me some way to take action.

Another thing you should try testing/analyzing is the amount of time a visitor spends on the landing page. If people are hitting the landing page and leaving in a few seconds that is information you can use to change the landing page. If visitors are hitting the landing page and sticking around for 30 seconds but still leaving that's a different type of problem and other information you'll need to use to change the landing page.

If you're sending PPC traffic, then having a landing page is the way to go. I've found that your page HAS to be VERY SPECIFIC in what you're selling. For example, don't just promote all laptops; promote the Sony Viao Whatever brand. Don't promote a dating site, promote Asian dating, etc. The landing page works when you get VERY specific.

If you're doing aff sales by deep linking into a site or blog, then you can link directly to the sellers page.

I really think (more and more) of doing my own landing page in a near future. First, I would test it with PPC and then when I will get a good response, I could optimize it for search engines.

With affiliate landing page, everybody has the same replicated page and that makes unpersonal and "yes, I've seen this page already...".

We should brand ourselves a little more because when people enroll in an affiliate, they like to know who is their sponsor. They "discover" there is a real person behind.

I fully agree with maximus's post!
