Amazing 4k Monitor

a mercury-free LED panel...

That's a bit like saying "Uranium-free food processor" or "Bromine-free paper". Whoever wrote that either doesn't know anything about diodes or electronics, or is simply trying to fill space with words.

I've been waiting for this but where the fuck do you get that it's only $1400???

That's barely more than the current 30 inch. By all accounts it should be more like $3500 minimum.

The 28 is actually less than 1k. The 24 is 1400. Press Releases | Dell
Now I hope there is a way to use "best for retina" setting on an external. Windows is fucking terrible with h-PPI. Even though 8.1 improved a bit its still shit compared to OSx.

Thanks for the link. I didn't realize they were making sizes other than the 32 inch, which is $3500 as expected. Curious that the 28 inch is going to be less than the 24?
VA panel, 8 bit and no calibration also its not an ultrasharp which are god tier. But its still an amazing monitor.

Most of you bro's will need a new video card that has dual link dvi to use this monitor

Joe - do you know of a UK supplier that has the 7990s in stock perchance?

edit: actually - doesn't have to be Uk, just a decent supplier.

Unfortunately not, I snatched mine up from Scan pretty quickly. Be warned though, I didn't realise just how much power they consumed, up to 500W per card at full load. I've got a pretty beefy PSU on its way, but finding a decent 1kw+ PSU (this is 1200W) is very difficult at the moment, everyone seems to be on preorder. Ebay maybe?

These guys usually have a few in stock Components » Power Supplies » 1001w and above - Overclockers UK or try Amazon.co.uk. I've bought all my recent component purchases through Amazon, the prices are usually a bit better and delivery is free and often the next day, even to here in Spain, via DHL.

The Seasonic power supplies come highly recommended bu it looks like Overclockers ran out in the last 24 hours. I'm not 100% sure but I think I read the new generation of AMD cards, the R9 207, 208 and 209, are more energy efficient. Might want to check them out before you buy 79XX cards.

Chiming in on the high-DPI display stuff... I picked up the Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro a month and a bit ago (3200x1800, 276 PPI) and I am absolutely sold on the display. Seriously, I can't stop using it... one look at my 23" 1080p external monitor after using the laptop for a couple hours and that was it. Haven't hooked it up since.

It takes some tweaking to get Windows 8.1 in line with high-DPI but once you nail it, everything looks absolutely incredible. Using this laptop has actually spurred me to redevelop all of our websites with "retina" DPI graphics and better typefaces which scale well. This is the future, might as well get things rolling.

I run Windows at a custom scaling of 175% which works perfectly for me, but again you'll need to play around with a bunch of different scaling levels to see what you prefer. Basically it's like calibrating colors - you can either use whatever the OS offers and accept it, or tweak things and really make it your own. Nice to see these manufacturers finally stepped up and got high-DPI on to the market at a reasonable price.
