Alright, recently I just won an auction on a pretty nice domain:
DA 43 / PA 53
Ahrefs Domain Rank: 52
Majestic Trust: 22 / Citation: 19
3k Backlinks
700 Domains
* backlinks are pretty much all really great and hard to come by, from huge authority sites in the niche from smaller blog ones.

The domain was once used for a site in the web design niche, and obviously pretty much all it's backlinks are from web design sites.
My question is this: Could I start an authority site using this domain but on a entirely different niche now days? The site will be very similar to elitedaily.com just lists of life things, must-do's and don't's, relationship, travel, living anything and everything.

How well will building a site like I've mentioned help or not, thoughts? tips?

Thanks in advance.

It all boils down as to how much is your dedication and budget are.

If it will turn out to be an ordinary newbie website then please don't waste the links. Do yourself a favor and create an MFA out of the domain and earn from it. Create another site with another idea from it.

If however you have a good budget and you think that you can create/buy your own links and PBN's then by all means do it. Authority with the links will be Irrelevant but you created another set that supports your new niche.

It won't turn out to be an ordinary newbie site and no way in hell I'll do MFA's ever again, stopped doing those since 2012.

I'll say it again, this won't be a specific NICHE site, look at elitedaily.com for example, or look at greatlist.com - there isn't a specific niche, just a lot of content from a lot of 'areas' that's what I'm going for.

I'll be investing heavily in content, probably 1 to 3 articles a day, 1000+ words very well written no cunts from fiverr, just textbroker and iwriter high ranked writers.

As for SEO, no PBN or at least I have no plans for it, will probably create a PBN just for this site will keep the number small, probably around 20 high PA/DA sites that will have great content will link to other major sites, create social profiles for it, everything you would normally do to a regular site pretty much. - I'll try to connect with different blogs to guest blog or even offer to pay to guest blog on their sites, will try to focus a lot on having a social media not just for traffic but building and targeting a specific type of people (with a little more IQ I'd hope).

As far as dedication goes, I'm all in + I have a VA helping me, well not really a VA more like an IRL friend I taught and pay to help me.

What I was asking is i I could use such domain that was used for a web design / photography site, and how would you recommend I go about it.

Cheers!

You need to think about your dedication and budget.

Are you willing to get the content back up, put some adsense on it and earn a bit? Or do you want those authority links backed with some nice PBN juice?

Will you bring that competitive edge and 24/7 work ethic to support it?

Depends bro, how much is your dedication and budget are?
ha! thanks for the correction. Was overworked last night :arcadefreak:

You already have your answer. Why still ask?
3 articles at 1k words each with good quality is an above the normal site building. Would suggest creating a Newbie journal here on wickedfire to track your progress and to ask specific questions along the way

Relevance would always be better. Chances of keeping the links is higher also. For me building money sites of any kind on an expired domain has been hit or miss - sometimes the rank excellent, others won't rank shit, regardless of metrics. Before you invest too much get it framed with some solid content and make sure it indexes and ranks.

That's actually a pretty good idea, thank you. I didn't have the answer, because I've never built a site on an expired domain with authority that wasn't niche relevant.

I couldn't find a 'niche' relevant domain even if I wanted to, because the type of site I want to build doesn't fall in your regular niches, will be a content powerhouse of lists.

Relevance to what? Won't be monitoring ranking because there wouldn't be any keyword to rank for, if you mean the blog articles than yes - but it would take some time getting traffic.
