I've been checking out Amazon's affiliate program, and I was wondering if any of you had any experience with it. It looks like it's vaguely similar to Clickbank.

Well, both of them are affiliate programs, if that's what you mean

What hassle? Amazon's program is legit and easy, and it's cool seeing the crazy shit people buy. The commission percentage is small and conversion is often low, so look for volume keywords and high-value products.

If you can put yourself in a position to dip into some traffic with clickers during November and December, you will make some money from it.

Clickbank is a third party affiliate network that serves as a liaison between merchants/advertisers and affiliates/publishers.

Amazon is a good place to start because it has such high name recognition. You don't have to sell people on Amazon.

Well Amazon is worth the hassle but only in the very very very long term. Like choose a high value niche (preferably one with a price tag of $100+) and write various sort of guides and articles about the products and do SEO. Once you're ranking well in google and are getting good traffic from long tail keywords and stuff, then you can plug in your amazon affiliate links and start promoting them.

If you go for micro niches, you'll be making peanuts, so in my humble opinion it is only a viable option if you have the patience to set up an authority site etc..

High-end electronics would probably do well on Amazon. They have a good reputation for handling returns, so they probably get a lot of repeat customers. If you have enough traffic, I guess you can do well whether your affiliate links are for used books or computers. Clickthrough rate, conversion rate, and dollar amount purchased determines what works, right?

Amazon is one of my bread and butter affiliates. The key is high volume and small niche related websites. You can do well over time if you can achieve this criteria.
