American Express paying customers to close their accounts

I had my credit limit dropped by 2/3. I maintained a balance about 1/3 my total limit. I used the Amex for just about everything, including Costco. I was notified that my credit limit had been dropped when the Costco guy told me that my card had been declined.

Good thing I had my checks with me at the time.

Called up Amex and was told that due to my spending habits and credit report, they had dropped my limit. The phone chick didn't seem surprised that I hadn't been notified.

My parents and two friends of mine have all had their Amex card limits dropped without warning or notice.

What is the DEAL?

Old news...

In November knocked me down from 50k to 2k.

You know why? I did not use the account enough.. never over 1k in a month and I always paid in full and on time..

Go figure....

My Amex Blue Cash for Business card had its credit limit raised, without notice. I think it took 3 weeks for them to send me a mail (addressed to me personally, not referencing my business name). No clue as to why my limit would be raised without notice in this economy.

My personal Amex card's limit has stayed the same for quite some time, but I only put about $10/month on it since my Visa gives me better rewards. My Citi Business Mastercard's limit was cut to $2k since I've only spent $7.50 on the card since I got it a year ago - That cut didn't have any notice (still) sent about it. It's happening across banks/cards.

I had my limit halved too, and a couple of people I know had their AMEX cards cancelled without notice - but they didn't get any money for it. What's the deal there?

I was late a tiny bit on like $100. They closed my account and seemed happy to do it. I was traveling and didnt realize I was late. Umm I was an Amex customer for 8 years and had no balance and paid on time. I guess I was not profitable enough.

do you guys have bad credit scores?
i got a plum card and i use it for everthing, that would really blow if they reduced me, because its the only card that allows big charges to go through consistantly without me having to call every day.

It's actually the people like you that they want to get rid of... people who charge a lot and pay it off every month.

I don't know about the US, but I live in the Netherlands and I recently had my limit raised to 50K without any problem, they were happy to do it almost I got the impression (I expected some pushing and pulling).

They told me cause I have a good history with them a.k.a. I always pay on time a lot was possible with my account, when I asked for the 50K it was no problem at all.
