Now that they cracked his fraud I guess they will order him to pay back every cent, but what if he spent the money or hid it offshore.

Isn't it a civil offence so they cant put him behind bars?

Did Willms pay off his $359 million settlement?

"Moreover, the free scan identifies Windows DLLs (Dynamic Link Libraries) as “errors” to be removed, which could potentially cause problems for the computer".

damn, that's just mean.

Hmm I know the guys behind one of those companies. Sucks because they were actually semi legit.

I'm not saying it's the case here because I don't know.

But there are a TON of guys in this industry that portray themselves as being "semi legit" while 95% of there income comes from scammy shit while they push "complaint lead gen offers".

I'd bet there are a number of "semi legit" guys that didn't get caught in this wave that are shitting their pants because they run the exact same business model and offer set up. I don't think Mehta was the biggest by any means.

I helped them out with some of their call center stuff. We discussed the "Indian scam" plenty, and they weren't doing it.

They weren't generating their own traffic. Affiliates were putting their 1800 number into various places, and the end user was calling it. An agent within the US was legitimately offering to help, but required them to pay for a package to offer tech support.

The package was typically a year of tech support for $3-500 - which when you think about it, isn't unreasonable. Why? Because I bet all of you have some annoying friend or relative that asks you for computer help all the time. Having a 1800 number you could give them to fix their shit for that price once off, is actually a good deal.

The sales pitch took about an hour on average. When they did the tech support out of the US they were LOSING MONEY. Seriously, it was costing a million a month to run their staff. They nearly had to go out of business before they outsourced the tech support side post sales pitch overseas.

Spending a million a month just to support a product is not scamming, and shouldn't look that way.

Amit on the other hand, he was probably the asshole behind the Indian scam that was cold calling.
