And they say chivalry is dead - More Tazering...

ARGH

I am following news about the emerging police state..err... USA quite closely, as it saddens me what is happening.

What is driving me up the wall is that more than half of the comments to this type of incidents (tasering, unlawful arrests, photographers being attacked, free speech revoked, airport screening bullies..) is a
"If the people would just behave and obey, this would not happen"

Sickens me to the bone, that does.

Home of the brave, land of the free?

More like
Home to us slaves, land of the sheep.

The terrorists got what they wanted: Your freedom.

PS: Yeah, it is early here, I am grumpy and really, really worried about what is happening.

Don't blame the terrorists, they have nothing to do with that. In particular, they never cared about your freedom or lack of freedom.

Let's face it, the society is changing and turning slowly but willingly to fascism. And it is not only in the USA, even if it is where it is the most visible. That said, I agree with your post.

This shit has been going on for years, police just never got in trouble for it before. The Rodney King beating, people routinely got beatings like that from police officers in the 50s and 60s but nobody ever complained, and if they did complain society wouldn't listen because they weren't a bunch of bleeding heart pussies back then.

I think we might see some changes happen though. All of these cities will be facing multi-million dollar lawsuits. I wouldn't be surprised if they restrict the use of stun guns or just remove them from their arsenal of torture. hehe

Amen to that! Too many wusses and too many cameras now days. Did anyone else see the woman trying to kick out the back window? Are there supposed to be no repercussions for God awful and unlawful behavior? Enforcing the law does not turn you into a fascist state.

The woman is lucky - she just got a little shock and embarassment - and she'll probably be a youtube star. If she were in some other country, like Iran, she would have been stoned to death.

The US isn't like Iran for a reason.

And no, she didn't deserve to be tased like that. Was she a threat handcuffed, NO. The cops could have handled her without tasing her. The problem is, the cop is a fat lazy piece of shit(see video for reference) who was too tired to bend over and hold her down. So instead he shot and mildly tortured her.

I'm all for tazers and rubber bullets as a means of non-lethal response.

However, that asshole had no reason to taze that woman. Regardless of what she did to get to that point.

Oh give me a break! Tasering is no where near torture - and the woman deserved what she got. If you're going to be a major asshole in public, then you have to expect some repercussions. That's what's wrong with this country, no one takes responsibility for their actions anymore.

If she was so worried about being tasered, and if it was "such torture", then why did she start kicking the window after being tasered the first time? Because the shit didn't hurt that much that's why.

She kicked the window because she was furious because she wasn't treated fairly. Have you ever been shocked? It hurts. Would you let someone shoot you with a taser gun? I doubt it.

I've been tasered many times through military training - it's not that bad. It merely makes you tense up, and loose muscle control.

The ones that make the limelight with these taser episodes - are ones that you can tell have never had any punishment dealt them before (especially when they needed it as kids) And therefore cry like big babies when they're tasered. Did you hear that kid crying at the John Kerry speech? What a wuss! He's probably been babied his entire life. Did you see the big tantrum he was throwing? I would have tasered him a few more times just for being a big dam baby.

I've always wanted to be tasered, just to know what it feels like. I've been shocked with a stun gun, and while it's annoying (at worst) it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Kicking out windows in cop cars is not uncommon. My family is friends with some (good) cops. It really is the cops fault for not noticing she was doing that, opening the door to stop her, then getting help to bind her feet. This is all procedure for cops. They know people kick out windows. Can't they take the high rode when people are drunk? Not taser them like cattle?

I worked in a bar for two years. I threw people out of the bar or got them a cab. It aint that hard to talk to drunks or their friends to get the situation under control. I only physically threw people out a few times. Never needed a nightstick, gun or taser. Maybe for police training cops can work in a bar for a week or two at night.

While it's true that this cop probably didn't follow protocol, it's been proven that taser's cause less harm than trying to get into a physical altercation with people that are thrashing about like that. It causes less harm to the cop, and the perp.

Working in a bar, you probably know that drunks can take a good licking, and a lot of the times they can dish it out as well. For a rowdy drunk, a taser is a cop's (and a drunk's) best friend. It causes much less harm than fists or a stick.

True. Back in the late 80s, one of my friends from high school got beaten by cops after a punk gig in Hollywood. I couldn't believe his sister's news at first until I visited him in the hospital and saw his condition with my own two eyes. Back then, if you got beaten in a dark corner by police and there's no witnesses and (definitely) no video, the incident DID NOT occur. Sure enough, 4 years later, the Rodney King incident blew up.

venroy, I would guess as someone who is
a) male
b) in the military
c) "used to physical punishment" or pain
d) probably well trained

Is no grounds for any comparison to the pain smaller people, elderly, women, untrained slackers face when tasered.

I wouldn't put women into that group - They have a much higher pain tolerance than we do. As evidenced by the way that woman behaved even after being tased once. Also if you are a major wuss to pain - you should take that into consideration before acting an ass in public.
