I'm taking a look at AngelList.com and Kickstartr, I don't really know what any of them are about. But I was wondering if there are any organizations that just listen to your concept and fund you based off of that. I know i read in a magazine last year that Ycombinator pretty much did that.

What about AngelList, anyone know?

i have been very active on angels list for about a month or so - i just signed up for networking etc i am not asking for money and not trying to loan money or buy up businesses at this time.

i think it really depends on your geographical area with angels list. for me being in south florida there seems to be a lot of other people on angels list in soflo so i am getting pretty good responses.

nevery actually heard of anyone buying/selling or lending/receiving on there but i am sure it has happened. there are a ton of cool businesses on there just trying to make it, a few cool ideas for social media concepts as well.

where in Soflo? Thats great news b/c i plan on moving down there this summer. Ft Lauderdale area.

I asked the quesiton because i have a concept that i'm going to develop into a full working site, but figured it would still be sweet to get some feedback from investors just by hearing the idea - so if that was possible i'd like that

boca raton area - 10 minutes from ft lauderdale. hit me up when you get down here, great meeting like minds that is not direct competition lol. fuck it i actually dont even care about compeition. my best friend (and only friend in the IM industry) just moved to cali said fuck you to his affiliate network and is working for advertiser direct.

the thing is if you really want your idea to get heard you need a full biz plan etc, even if it is "just" a webisite if you want the serious ppl to take you srs those are the first things they will ask you for. its also important to know how to hide information and what not to disclose ie if you think you will make 500k your first year maybe show revenue projections at high 300ks etc

You're using 3 different companies in this post as though they are interchangeable. They all do extremely different things. The only similarity is the word "funding."

Honestly, half the question threads on WickedFire could be solved by Googling or RTFM, but for some reason I've chosen this thread to do it for the OP:

YCombinator funds batches of startups twice a year. You come to Mountain View, CA for 3 months and you get ~$15k for ~7% equity. Afterwards, you have the option to take a $150k convertible note with no cap. Most of the value is in the mentorship and connections they give you. To get in to YC, you apply online.

AngelList is a platform for formalizing the seed funding process. It's not really designed for meeting new angels, but it helps organize lots of the information in one place.

KickStarter is for creative projects. If you're making a new movie or building a new widget or something, you can post about it and people will give you money to complete it. Usually this is because you promised to deliver something to your donors, but it's not really supposed to be a sales platform.
