Any advantage to hiring instead of paying per project?

I found a great Indian freelancer who does a lot of my SEO tasks. Lately, he's been asking me to hire him instead of just paying per project.

I feel like my return wouldn't be as good if I hired him since we are in different countries, and there's no solid way of telling if he ever slacks off.

Are there any advantages to hiring full-time, or should I just keep paying per project? Does anyone have experience with this?
 


If you hire full time, it's cheaper.

He probably just wants security. What I do with my remote workers is time how long it takes me to do a certain task (for example, setting up an account and then submitting a social bookmark to that account) then add 10% to that time - if it's taking longer than that they are probably jerking you around.

Most of the time these people work their balls off though, especially if you pay them a decent wage.
 
The downside is if you can't come up with work fast enough for them you'll be paying them to do nothing. Small price to pay though I would imagine.
 
Good advice so far, I'd say. It would ultimately be cheaper for you to hire him. He's in another country, too, so I doubt you would even need to pay him American minimum wage. That said, pay him fairly and make sure you always have task for him to do.

Consider how often you hire him per project to the amount you pay him. You def. don't have to hire him full time if it isn't prudent.

If you find you run out of task, start taking on jobs here (maybe) from other users for him to do, at cost.
 
Thanks for the great advice guys. I'll probably end up hiring him within the next 1-2 weeks. I just have to figure out what to pay him.

I've heard of people on this forum hiring Indian workers for $100-$200 per month, but this seems rather low, especially since this guy already does at least $100 worth of projects for me weekly.
 
I recommend hiring a STOI (small team of Indians).

The more productive ones can add a lot of "boost" to your e-tasks, and if you treat 'em right, they`ll become a nice long-term investment.
 
i think running out of tasks would be a huge motivator for the OP though, nothing worse then knowing your about to throw money away to enable you to come up with some creative ideas, new tasks, new sites for him to work on.
 
hiring people full-time took my business to the next level. there is huge over-head in constantly trying to find a contractor to do what you need. when you have someone who knows your business and is on autopilot it simply rocks. naturally, be sure that you can justify a full-time person.
