Hey guys, I've got a keyword phrase I'm targeting, however the main keyword domain is taken as well as the one with "-" in between the words. I know these are the same as far as SERPS go, but how about something like 1keyword.com or keyword1.com?

I would be using the "1" as a filler to allow me to still get the keyword that i want to target in my domain... is this a dumb idea?

the difference between keyword.com and keyword1.com is that there is a 1 at the end of keyword.

so there is a difference.

keyword.com - keyword1.com = 1

I know that, but I mean as far as SERPs go. Will keyword1.com still have the same instant serp power that keyword.com and keyword-phrase.com have?

Well, you have to consider how the SERPs interpret the data. Their text based analysis will have human programmed logic (prone to error) combined with several dictionary-driven functions. Google has been the #1 leader in perfecting this technology for a decade.

For a number of years now, work has been proceeding to bring perfection to the crudely conceived idea of a machine that would not only supply inverse reactive search results for use in unilateral phase detractors, but would also be capable of automatically synchronizing cardinal grammeters. Such a machine is the "ranking-encabulator." Basically, the only new principle involved is that instead of pagerank being generated by the relative motion of conductors and fluxes, it is produced by the medial interaction of magneto-reluctance and capacitive directance.

I would therefore consider your choice to between 1keyword.com and keyword-phrase.com to be a marginal issue of the utmost importance. Obviously keyword.com is the strongest preference for branding purposes. However, you must consider what we in this industry amicably refer to as, "SE0 below the belt line."

in other words you guys are saying yes it will rank somewhat similar, but it is kind of a cheap shot?

keyword1.com will not get the magical exact match keyword bonus. It will just get the "keyword is in the title" bonus which is a function of keyword density rather than exact matched-ness.

^^^ I can confirm this. If adding a number works like exact match domains... you'll be seeing a ton of these already.

Yep. Exact match isn't because google thinks keywords in domains are necessarily awesome, it's just that when people search for a phrase, it could be the brand name of a company. If that domain doesn't show, then they look like their search engine sucks. I'd imagine that exact match bonus may be reduced a bit since Google has probably enough data between chrome & GA to know which cases are witch. So, your "1" wouldn't mean much regarding the "bonus" you're talking about unless people were adding one to their queries w/ regularity.
