Any Lexus owners?

Hey guys,

I was hoping to get some opinions on here. I may be forced into a new car this month because my POS Volkswagen is falling apart. So in my searches I found a Lexus for under 20k. It's a 2008 ES 350 with about 65k miles on it. It's a certified pre-owned, so they have some sort of warranty that extends to 100k.

It seems like a really good deal, but I've never owned a Lexus before so I don't know what's involved with maintaining it. I'm only looking at Lexus because I've always heard good things about their reliability. Does anyone here have any kind of experience with them?

My VW is a 2006 Rabbit. The fuckers airbags have gone out on it, and in turn, the horn doesn't work. To pass inspection in my state the horn has to work and the repairs for the airbags are estimated at about 1700 for parts. No idea how much labor would be involved. Needless to say, I'm done with that shit.

Anyway, any firsthand or secondhand accounts would be helpful. Thanks guys!

Well.. its a toyota with cheap plastic faux wood. In terms of maintenance don't take it to the lexus dealer take it to the toyota dealer cause it uses the same parts and you'll pay 1/4 the price.

They are pretty reliable though. Not a fan of their recent work though.

Lexus makes a good car. Take Will's advice and take it to the Toyota dealer when you're out of warranty, or find a good independent shop. Lexus has a really good certified pre-owned warranty should you need it. I'd say go for it, the ES is a really nice car.

Lexus and Infiniti's are a little silly in that they can be rebadged cars. But the styling is good and it is quite easy to get a free loaner car when getting serviced.

If you can get the price close for a Nissan to Infiniti or Toyota to Lexus it might be worth it over a few years.

I've owned a few ES models over the years and found that they were always reliable (we tend to hold cars for 5 years for various reasons and no major issues); the drive is different than say a BMW where the focus is on the "experience" whereas Lexus is supposedly focused more on the luxurious carriage model; the GS model is more similar to German cars if you still crave it, but the ES is a solid mid-luxury vehicle. If you are into the tech options, look into Acura TL too. With dollar/yen movement, I'll be back in the market late this year for a car and will probably ditch my 5-series for an Acura or Lexus depending on the value I can extract from my dealer network.

I love Lexi...

(my American compatriots may not get this)

My wife drives a 2011 IS 250, it has about 20k miles on it and we haven't had a single issue. If its a good deal, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. As others have mentioned, once its out of warranty just find a non-dealer stop to work on it. I did with my previous 328 and saved hundreds of dollars if not thousands on some work it needed.

2010 Audi S4. Has a supercharged v6 333hp and makes peak torque of 325 ft/lbs @ only 2900 RPMS!

It's AWD, available in 6spd, classy, and looks best in Ibis White!

They are reliable, but if you are getting a sedan lexus, please get a RWD-based (can be AWD) one: IS, GS, LS. Don't get ES, since it's just Toyota Camry/Avalon. This way at least you are paying for something, not for rebadged Toyota.

OMG you guys have such awesome cars. I have a Olds Alero and, given that I park on the street, I'm not gonna buy a car until I get a garage but.. shit man... these cars are hot.

You could probably get a 2010 A4 for around $20k - although the engine is different they look practically the same.

Saw this, immediately shot a 3 roper onto my keyboard. Cleaned it up and then went to autotrader. Looks like $44k-ish in my area.

He meant the a4, I think they start at $35k new? You may be looking at the wrong thing. The new body style a4 (b8) came out in 09 so you should be able to get an 09-10 for $23-$30k by now. Also maybe in Wisconsin people dont switch their cars every couple of years, try looking in NYC or Chicago area.

I drive a 98 es 300 and it drives like a cloud. Love it. Bought it from a family member with 67 thousand miles on it.

I will probably continue to buy Lexus's for the rest of my life.

Can't wait til they make surface to air vehicles...
