im new to all this - just dipping my toe in the first projects now - but i wish upon wish that i'd discovered IM years ago before i had kids so that i'd have time to get my head around everything! its a massive industry and theres so much to learn, and the problem im having at the moment is finding the time to get 'in the zone' with my work when ive got young kids to look after.
right now for example, my 8month old keeps waking up coz his gums hurt, so i have stop what im doing, sort him out and come back to it. and my 2yr old comes over and shuts the laptop if he sees it open, so unless he's in bed or at pre-school (which is just 2 afternoons a week at the moment) i can't get much done.

guess im just looking for some camaraderie with other work at home mummies - and maybe some reassurance that you can make this work even with such young kids (!?)

ps - wasnt sure what icon to pick, or even what category to post this in, so hope no-one minds me posting here.

it's possible, but difficult in your shoes. I have a 14 month old, my wife can't use the laptop with her around cause she's always trying to smash the keys.

I'm no mom but I've heard alcohol and handcuffs work wonders!

but on a less serious note...IM is definitely daunting at the start when there is just so much information and so little time to read and understand it all. It is really helpful to pick an area that you want to focus on first to get some basics down before trying to master the internet. a lot of areas build on each other so it is good to just pick one and learn instead of trying to learn everything at once.

are you going to pay money for clicks and have a decent budget for ppc?
do you want to focus more on seo and organic traffic?
do you want to do product sites or try to blog about what you know?
have you learned how to put up a site and do minor edits?

a lot of the things you will be doing seem like they take a lot of time and whatnot to setup but soon you will be able to do it one handed while doing whatever you do with babies in the other hand. Then just find little break spots to do more mind intensive work. the huge todo lists that you always see take weeks in newbie journals will take about 15-30 minutes soon enough.

do IM and pick an area of IM that interests you and is something that you don't mind spending your time on as a hobby and it doesn't matter if it didn't work because in the end it is a little bit of mental freedom from the torture that I imagine being a full time mother is...respect!

yes toddlers love to smash.
if only they knew were just trying to make money so we can keep giving them milk and dora merchandise.

once they're a bit older, the TV will be your best friend and babysitter. Put on something they like that's educational and tie 'em to a chair.

aww, thats sweet otinsdale, thanks. yes it is torturous at times but obviously rewarding too or else i wouldnt have gotten knocked up in the first place!
im setting up sites that focus on specific products, and blogging about stuff too, as well selling my services as a writer and proof-reader. i also have an idea for a site related to parenthood (obviously its the dominant thing in my life right now so i got lots on it!) which i'll likely need to outsource for help with it - thats another great thing about these forums, you can find people with skills you dont have and need, and they'll do em for u!
ok babies asleep, think i should be too.
cheers all.

I've got 4 kids. Serious work is for after bedtime - that's your only chance. I roam from my office, to garage, to my bedroom to work - the damn kids keep finding me.

Still I do serious stuff at night, and make my wife deal with them in the mornings so I can sleep in. Your husband(or whatever) is going to have to pick some of the slack up when he isn't working so you can.
