Anybody have any good thesis theme editing techniques or tips?

Just started on the WP thesis theme. Just curious if anyone knew of some good editing techniques to get the full potential out of this theme. I installed the openhook plugin, but it still seems a little tough to change padding, margins, and divs of the theme.
