Anyone else habitually copy and paste messages before submitting them?

I've been burned one too many times after writing a long ass message/email/forum post then hitting send, and having the page timeout. Worst feeling in the world right there.

Now I just habitually select all>copy and paste the message into a notepad file just in case shit goes down.

Am I OCD, or is this normal for someone who spends 12+ hours a day in front of the computer?

I type it in, copy it, and paste it into notepad, THEN submit. Only if it's important.

This particular message I copied into Notepad, Word, TextWrangler, and then uploaded copies of those files to Dropbox. Then I dropped one into my 3 harddrive raid just to be safe.

If it's long yeah, if short no.

Been burned soooo many fucking times.

Paper Chase, I have an inside joke with myself (yes, I am this lame) that you can tell how productive your day was by how many unsaved notepads you close by the end of the day.

I can't live without notepad copypastin

I hope this clears that up.

I like to live on the edge, I write stuff that takes several hours to compose and let the submit button fly. It's like getting the same rush you would from gambling. The longer the submit takes to complete, the bigger the rush!

how many notepad tabs do you have open right now? Im at 25

Way too little. If you ever quote me, and I don't reply, chances are I wrote a long reply, then for whatever reason, lost it (often cause I half-write it, get distracted by another tab, then at 200 tabs, kill firefox) and got pissed off and couldn't be assed to rewrite it.

Sometimes if you shut your eyes right after you lose a post, you can still see a good bit of what you typed. More often than not, you may see remnants of a dickroll.

Productive day today, only 12 notepads open. Record around 50.

I tend to save them now even though i will never read 95% of them again. Worst thing that can happen is a forced Windows update with dozens of Untitled Notepads open. I have a folder with hundreds of ideas / copy pasta stuff in txt files. There is treasure in there among a lot of crap called domains-todo5.txt, filtersql.txt, sitenotes.txt etc.

Does anyone use notepad to "clean" html rich text before pasting into something else (gmail , excel, word etc.)? Just me?

Always always always. Lost too many long posts and other things.
Just use your keyboard, it's the shortest way. You're already typing, so just make your last keystrokes be Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C

-edit-
yep, I use Notepad to clean formatting out too ;) Or if it's short, just use your URL bar

I just select all, copy, submit, and if I lost the post I log in and hit paste.

Glad I'm not the only one with text files like that :) Drives me crazy, I'm trying hard not to save files like that any more.

All the time :)

Been burned a few times so pretty much always do it now. Sometimes I'll hit the save button too because I've had the comp freeze up / reboot or whatever and then even notepad is useless if it's unsaved.
