Ok, I'm trying to setup a d-link 655 router as a wireless bridge.

Essentially there is a wireless router setup with WPA encryption and I want my router to pick up that signal and 'bridge' it via a lan cable hooked from my router to my PC.

What I've done so far is disabled DHCP and UPnP... and from what I've read, this is all that is necessary other than making sure your actual router IP has no conflicts with the existing subnet.

But... I still get jack, nada... I'm thorougly confused, the only thing I can think of is that this has something to do with the encryption on the network.

eeek bro you couldn't have picked a worse model to try :)

The DIR 655 says in the manual it supports wireless bridging but infact only supports wired bridging. Pretty much every other model above and below supports it however. As far as I know they also quit releasing firmware updates for it and all the previous ones didn't add the wireless bridge support either. So you're hosed :(

Eli,

thanks, yeh I think i read that on one of their forums, pretty funny because supposedly with previous firmware versions you could still access the bridging options by disabling css in your browser. like wtf dlink?

However, they also offered a solution in that same forum that essentially allows the same thing which is setting the router up as an access point, but I don't know, I can't get it to work, so yeah.. probably just going to chalk this one up as a loss.

What you really have to do is just get yourself out there. Meet people and start conversations. Don't start off with your sale pitch, have an actual human conversation. And then when the person asks you what you do, "Gay Webmaster" will have them even more intrigued.
