I have this guy who wants to sell car parts. He wants a full site with ecommerce built similar to Pro Street Online - #1 OEM and Aftermarket Parts Superstore!

but doesn't have the budget. I told him realistically, your looking at a couple G's to build a site like that and suggested something template based to work off of. He has erol and doesn't know how to work it or set it up.

Anyone with erol experience out there? If so, how hard is it to set a template up? Similar to wordpress?

PM if interested in possibly setting it up for this guy for a fee...he has the software...but doesn't know how to work it...

Looks easy enough to use and abuse.

Templates should be easy enough to build if the guy has a design already, you just set the placeholders. I think that erol should be as easy as oscommerce, perhaps easier, to use.

And my inquiring mind wants to know: What version of the software does he have though? And why did he buy a UK script over the other options out there?

In addition, how does your guy plan on adding new products? (xml, flatfile, database,...?)

It does look easy enough to use...I think he will buy a template (I saw them for $64)

For your inquiring mind:
  1. Not sure on version, I'll need to follow up with him
  2. He knows nothing about sites or what the difference is between .com.uk or .com
  3. A friend of his bought the program, but couldn't figure it out, so now this guy has it and can't figure it out.
  4. He has no clue as to how to add new products uploaded...i'm assuming he will need a database should this product not come with one and learn how to add all the fun stuff.
This guy really doesn't know jack about sites, but wants to start one to start selling car parts...

If he does not want to buy a template or even if he does and wants to modify it I thought their support page was pretty good

EROL Support Knowledge Base

In fact I might try to find a copy to test out for myself since I am always looking for an alternative to oscommerce.

If he has limited funds he wants to spend on coding his best use of funds is probably to find a rentacoder to build his database (assuming he has a large amount of items to port into his shop). For me this is always the hardest part of building a new site.

Thanks for introducing me to a new shopping cart.
