you think they are afraid he might go independent and are trying to not brush his supporters off like they have been so they can try to retain RP supporters for the eventual romney nomination?

I think they know that Paul's got no chance at all anymore and they're job is essentially done. Now you're seeing the niceness of the reporters who are sorry for what their past transgressions.

I think it's partly because of this and the desire to keep him from running independent. If the Republicans lose the constitutional conservatives and the more libertarian voters they will essentially be known as the party of Bible Thumping Warmongers.
