Lately I've been messing with CSS a bit more than usual and since I'm more of a script/database person out of some frustration I started looking into good IDEs that are strong on CSS and found TopStyle. Does anyone currently use this? I like how it has a Visual Studio-like property browser so I know what might be available to an amateur like myself.

I also came across this other IDE called Aptana. Looks cool since you can download it as an Eclipse plugin which if you're like me and deal with alot of different technologies, this can feel familiar. Just curious what your thoughts are on these.

I took a similar route when I was trying to up my CSS game and found myself a little overwhelmed. Since I'm not one of those douchebags who can use notepad for everything, I ended up with a program called Stylizer that is the absolute cat's ass.

I do everything in aptana. I love it. By far the best eclipse-based IDE for web development (superb support for (X)HTML, CSS, JavaScript), not to mention ruby, python, adobe air (+iphone) and even damn-good php support. And it's free. But if you're writing in PHP, also have a look at Zend. Their free trial almost sold me on the full IDE, but I found aptana instead.

Aptana has been highly recommended to us at work, but we are too cheap to buy it.

Maybe there is none and I am just stupid and talking about something else ... yeah, that must be it.

Carry on folks, nothing to see here.

Been using Aptana for a month or so now (got it free from the site, I think it's open-source??), and loving it. It has the auto-complete features and highlighting like you would get in Visual Studio or Dreamweaver, but because it has plugins for PHP, Ruby, etc. it works really well for those languages.

The only thing is that on the three systems I've installed it on the thing is a resource hog. It spikes my dual-core up 100% for three minutes on startup, and I've only installed the PHP plugin.

Totally worth it for the $Free.99 pricetag and great plugins though.

Maybe you were thinking of Komodo or Delphi for PHP? I know those look pretty good but they do cost money.

Ouch, this definitely sets me back. I'll have to give it a whirl and see. Were you using the stand-alone version or the Eclipse plug-in?

aptana was nice back when I tried it, it's just ridiculously slow to start ( I tried the standalone version )

now I use intype to write css code but it's just a slim text editor with syntax highlighting so it's not what you're looking for

I just bookmarked stylizer, from the video it seems amazing, will absolutely try it later
