Anyone use wireless internet cards?

I am thinking about getting a wireless internet card, or whatever they are called. The other night comcast shut down my internet, tv, and phone. Sucks because I was working and SHAPOW. Everything just went dead.

The check got mixed in the mail. I've been a customer with them for awhile now, maybe more then 5 years. They couldn't just call and ask me whats going on with my payment? I could understand for a 2 month subscriber. i dont know that just made me mad.

Anyway, I'm thinking about getting a wireless internet card for my laptop in case things happen just like this. There are quite a few companies that offer these like AT&T and Verizon. Anyone have experience with these and do you like it? Do they ever lose connection randomly?
 


They all have a 5gig limit now.

However I have a Sprint one that is unlimited and it's great. Instead of paying for internet at the hotel at ASE i used it for 4 nights.

It's quite acceptable internet, not great ping so I wouldn't want to code in ssh or play COD but for checking stats/emails/fixing landing pages it was fine.
 
I have Verizon and its nice. Internet pretty much anywhere and if your using it as a backup 5Gigs is plenty.

Check out the clearwire deal with comcast if you got that in your area.
 
I've been wanting to get a card myself, but the limit on bandwidth is redic. no? I'm not even sure if I surpass 5GB in bandwidth monthly but what happens if you do?

You'll have to pay for the extra bandwith usage. I believe it was like .50 or .20 cents/MB. Yea, that's insane.
 
I have like 10 verizon ones. Theyve always been stable. Its nice to have especially if you take your laptop with you and your out and about.

If you're in Atlanta, Vegas, or Portland OR, you can get 4G through CLEAR Wireless Coverage Area (not sure if their mobile card does 3g outside of service areas), and if you're in Baltimore, you can get 4G (with limited 3g usage outside of Baltimore) with Sprint Sprint Mobile Broadband with 4G - the country?s first 3G/4G dual mode mobile broadband card . You're in luck if you're in a Clear coverage area, since Comcast also sells their service now, so you can tie that in with... oh wait... Maybe you're best off buying directly in that case.
 
I tether through Sprint via my BB. I used to tether with Verizon and their data service is a little better in my opion.
 
Wow, thanks for all the replies. Looks like people like verizon. I don't think Ill use comcast if they even offer this because of what happened. But lets say I go over the 5GB's per month(which I doubt I will), do you they contact you or you will just see it on the bill? It would be nice if they emailed or something warning you.

Just curious, why do you have 10 and not just 1?
 
i have a verizon and at&t one, i find that at&t is usually faster, but verizon has a more stable connection...both work great all the time too...also iphone for tethering is good too..
 
I have an AT&T aircard and it seems to work decent enough for any of my needs. I've had to do code updates and stuff quite a bit while traveling and if I didn't have access to wifi it worked great every time on both coasts.
